QU Women's Tennis Travels to take on UConn Tuesday, Sacred Heart Wednesday

The Quinnipiac women's tennis team hits the road for their first duals of the season as they will take on their interstate rivals of UConn and Sacred Heart this week. The Bobcats will travel to Storrs to take on the Huskies on on Tuesday, Oct. 4 with the match scheduled for 3 P.M. The Bobcats will then take on Sacred Heart on Wednesday, Oct. 5 with the match set for 3 P.M.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn is coming off of it's first dual match of the fall, losing to UMass Minutemen, 5-2. The Huskies won the top two singles spots, but were unable to acquire any points outside of that.
LAST SEASON AGAINST THE HUSKIES
The Bobcats struggled in their only matchup against the Huskies last season, falling 6-1 in Hamden. Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) picked up the only point of the match for the Bobcats that day, as Mircea won her matchup at No. 5 singles against UConn's Zaina Zaki.
LAST SEASON VERSUS THE PIONEERS
The Bobcats won their only matchup of the season against Sacred Heart, 5-2. Quinnipiac swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point over the Pioneers. The Bobcats also won four singles matches, including wins by Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California), Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut).
ARE YOU READY TO DUAL?
Last season, the Quinnipiac women's tennis team went 15-11 in dual matches, including trips to the MAAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. The Bobcats were a perfect 9-0 in conference play and picked up six non-conference victories against Hartford, Sacred Heart, Fairleigh Dickinson, North Georgia, Bryant and Asa College.
FRESHMAN LEADER
With six wins at the West Point Invite, Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) maintains her standing of tied for second on the team in wins with 15, posting an overall record of 15-4, including 10-2 in doubles play.
FOLLOW THE LEADER
Horton had a great start to the year by going 16-4 in the month of September, leading the team in wins. Horton has gone 6-2 in singles competition and 10-2 in doubles so far this season. Horton won a singles consolation championship at the West Point Invite, where she also earned her 100th career victory, the 21st player in program history to do so.
AFTER THE STRETCH
Quinnipiac women's tennis will continue its dual matches after this week with two more against MAAC opponents Rider on Oct. 8 and Saint Peter's on Oct. 12 before beginning the ITA Regionals at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut on Oct. 20 for the final competition of the fall season.
