BACK ON THE ROAD
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team will travel to take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.
SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS
Saint Peter's women's tennis is off to a slow start to the 2016-17 season by going 0-1 to begin the season. The Peacocks suffered a season-opening 6-1 loss to Wagner.
LAST SEASON AGAINST THE PEACOCKS
The Bobcats won their only match against the Peacocks last season, 7-0, which gave Quinnipiac its fourth win in a row, improving its record to 4-1 (2-0 MAAC) at the time. Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) became the first Bobcat to reach the 20 win mark of the season, while Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) picked up a pair of wins to improve to 19-8 at the time and won her 60th career match.
LAST TIME OUT
In the Bobcats last match, they swept Rider 7-0 to earn their first MAAC win of the season. The Bobcats won in strong fashion, as they did not allow the Broncs to win a single match or set on the day.
MISSING IN ACTION
Senior Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) won't be in attendance for the Quinnipiac's match against Saint Peter's due to being chosen to participate at the 2016 Oracle/ITA Masters at Pepperdine University, which takes place from Oct. 13-16. The player that is chosen is the returning conference player of the year. If the POY was a senior and graduated, then the highest returning player in the ITA Final National Rankings or highest returning Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) rated player would be chosen. Class of 2016 graduate Sophia Dzulynsky won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year award for the 2015-2016 season. However, because of Dzulynsky's graduation, Rencheli replaced her. Rencheli is the highest rated universal women's tennis player returning in the MAAC with a rating of 8.52 according to UTR.
FABOLOUS FRESHMAN
Freshman Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) became the team-leader in wins this season with 19, after securing two victories in the Bobcats matchup against Rider on Saturday.
ALL SHE DOES IS WIN
Senior Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) leads the team in doubles wins with 12 wins and only three losses in competition. Her consistency and chemistry with her teammates shows that Young gets the job done, no matter who she is teamed up with.
COMING UP NEXT
Following the contest against Saint Peter's, Quinnipiac women's tennis team will head to New Haven, Connecticut, to participate in the ITA Regionals that Yale is hosting. Competition begins on Thursday, Oct. 20 and ends on Sunday, Oct. 23.
