QU Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight, Sweeps Saint Peter's, 7-0

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team put up a strong performance Wednesday afternoon on their way to a 7-0 sweep of the Saint Peter's Peacocks to win its third straight dual of the season. In the victory, the Bobcats (3-1, 1-0 MAAC) yielded zero matches or sets to the Peacocks (0-2, 0-1 MAAC).
The day began with doubles when Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) teamed up to take on Stephanie Falcon and Aidah Muhammad. Mircea and Oliphant made quick work of the Saint Peter's duo, beating them 6-2. The duo of Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) and Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) then teamed up to defeat Elena Melian Puigventos and Claudia Hellman, 6-0. The Bobcats completed the doubles sweep when Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) matched-up with Lucia Radovic and Malieva Hedberg. Young and Horton made quick work of the Saint Peter's pair, defeating them 6-1, giving the Bobcats the doubles point on the day.
The competition moved into singles play, where the Bobcats continued their dominance, winning six straight matches. Rodriguez got singles play started in the No. 2 singles match, where she defeated Melian, 6-2 and 6-0 in straight sets. Horton then followed suit, defeating Radovic 6-2 and 6-3 in straight sets. The Bobcats kept the winning-streak alive when Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) took on Hedberg in the No. 3 singles match. Lu went on to sweep Hedberg, 6-0 and 6-2 in straight sets.
As singles play continued, Quinnipiac never let up. Young swept Hellman, 6-0 in straight sets, then Lohaphaisan defeated Falcon 6-0 in straight sets as well. The Bobcats finished strong when Nicole Katzarkov (Coral Gables, Florida) downed Christian Resurreccion, 6-1 and 6-4 in straight sets, giving the Bobcats the 7-0 win.
Up next, the Bobcats will head to downtown New Haven, Connecticut, to participate in the ITA Regionals that Yale is hosting. Competition begins on Thursday, Oct. 20 and ends on Sunday, Oct. 23.
