No. 4/4 QU Women's Ice Hockey Scores Five Unanswered Goals to Beat Brown, 5-1

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team extended its program record winning streak to 10 games after scoring five unanswered goals in the second period to defeat the Brown Bears, 5-1, at High Point Solutions Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bobcats also extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games and improved to 16-1-3 on the season and 9-1-2 in ECAC Hockey play. Brown lost its third consecutive game, falling to 3-11-0 (1-7-0 ECAC Hockey). During the Bobcats five-goal second period, they scored three goals in a span of 51 seconds for the fastest three goals in program history. Previously, the Bobcats had scored three goals in 1:38 in a 10-0 win at Sacred Heart on Nov. 9, 2003.
The Bobcats recorded 50 shots in a game for the first time all season as they outshot the Bears 51-8, including 39-4 over the final two period. The last time the Bobcats recorded more than 50 shots was Nov. 15, 2014 when they recorded 63 shots against the Union Dutchwomen. Due in large part to a five-minute power play in the second period, the Bobcats recorded a season-high 19 shots on the power play as part of their 26 shot second period.
Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) led all skaters with three points in the game on one goal and two assists, marking the second time in the past three games in which Connery has recorded three points. Connery's goal was her sixth of the season while she picked up her 11th and 12th assists of the season for her 18th point of the season.
Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) returned to the lineup for the Bobcats after attending USA Hockey Winter Women's Training Camp and recorded her fifth consecutive multiple-point game with one goal and one assist. Cianfarano has now bested her freshman year offensive totals from last season with 18 goals, 14 assists and 32 points.
Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) tied Connery for the team lead in points with three in the game with her first career three-assist and three-point game. Woods is now second on the team with six goals and 16 assists for 22 points as she extended her point streak to five straight games.
Also picking up multiple assists for the Bobcats was Kristen Tamberg (North Toronto, Ontario) as she picked up her second two-assist game of the season. Tamberg finished the game with eight assists on the season after tying her career-high for assists in a single game.
Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) became the second player on the team to record 10 goals this season as the Bobcats' freshman netted a goal for the second straight game. Samoskevich has scored at least one goal in the five of the last six games for the Bobcats to boost her point total to 21 on the season.
Defensemen Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) and Lindsey West (Ajax, Ontario) also scored goals for the Bobcats to round out the offensive onslaught. Baumgardt set a new single-season career-high with her third goal of the season while West's was her second of the season.
Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) and MacKenzie Lancaster (Waxhaw, North Carolina) each picked up assists for the Bobcats, with Kosta recording her seventh of the season while Lancaster recorded the first assist of her career. Kosta extended her point streak to four games with the assist against the Bears.
Goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) recorded her ECAC Hockey-leading 16th win of the season on Saturday and continued her stellar play between the pipes, recording seven saves on eight shots. With her seven saves, Rossman kept her GAA below 1.00 at 0.99 in the win.
Brown took a 1-0 lead with 5:12 remaining in the first period after going on a five-on-three power play. Maddie Woo passed the puck from the left point to Leah Olson at the right point where Olson's shot was saved with the left pad by Rossman. Despite the save, the rebound kicked out to Bridget Carey on the doorstep who tucked home the rebound for her third goal of the season. Carey's goal was the first goal the Bobcats have allowed against the Bears since Nov. 8, 2013.
The Bobcats tied the game just 1:11 into the second period. Kosta skated the puck from the right corner into the face-off circle where she hit Tamberg with a pass at the left point. Tamberg's initial shot was blocked by Brown's Cynthia Kyin but Tamberg got her own rebound and fired a shot on Brown goaltender Monica Elvin. Tamberg's shot was steered away but the rebound kicked right to Samoskevich on the doorstep where she backhanded the puck home to tie the game 1-1.
The Bobcats took the lead for good just 14 seconds later when Connery tied the game with a perfect deflection to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead. Woods gathered the puck behind Brown goal before sneaking a pass out to Tamberg in the high slot. Tamberg had her eye on the upper left corner of the goal but Connery stuck her stick in front and deflected the shot past Elvin for the goal.
Cianfarano capped off the Bobcats three goals in a span of 51 seconds with her 18th of the season. Connery got the puck in the high slot and fired a shot on Elvin but the rebound once again kicked out in front of the net. Woods was right on the doorstep to make a perfect behind-the-back pass with Elvin sprawling in front of the goal to Cianfarano who had a wide open net.
West scored the Bobcats fourth goal of the second period with 8:41 to play in the period and the Bobcats just 18 seconds into a five-minute power play. Kosta worked the puck from the left point to Connery on the right wing, who then pass the puck to Cianfarano in the corner. With the defense crashing on Cianfarano, she zipped a pass across the face of the goal to West sneaking in on the back door all alone for the weak side goal.
Quinnipiac took a 5-1 lead with 3:14 to play in the second period and finish off a five-goal second period on Baumgardt's only goal of the game. Lancaster worked the puck on the right boards to Baumgardt on the right point where she skated the puck in to hit Woods with a pass. Woods skated around the Bears' goal before Baumgardt crashed to the crease and bang home the goal in front of Elvin.
