Potsdam, New York – The No. 3 seed Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team fell to the No. 2 seed Harvard Crimson 2-1 in overtime in the ECAC Semifinals Saturday evening at Cheel Arena.
With the win, the Crimson improve to 24-5-3 and advance to the ECAC Women's Hockey Championship against the No. 5 seed Cornell Big Red while the Bobcats drop to 26-8-3 with their fourth semifinal loss in program history.
Quinnipiac and Harvard played three highly contested matchups so far this season, with each game ending with a 2-1 final score and the last two matchups ending in overtime in favor of the Crimson. In all three matchups, the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead but the Crimson came back to win.
Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) scored her 11th goal of the season, also boosting her season point total to 24 and 49 in her career.
Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) and Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) each recorded assists on Woods' goal, giving Brown her 12th assist of the season and Baumgardt her fourth.
Sarah Edney and Miye D'Oench each scored goals for the Crimson while Michelle Picard, Haley Mullins, Mary Parker and Samantha Reber all picked up assists in the game.
Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) made 26 saves on 28 shots in goal for the Bobcats while Emerance Maschmeyer made 30 saves on 31 shots for the Crimson.
Woods gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead 6:16 into the first period with her second goal of the playoffs. Baumgardt worked the puck from the right point along the boards where it was continued by Brown. Woods corralled the puck in the right corner and circled it around the net where she wristed the puck off Maschmeyer and into the net.
Harvard tied the game with 12:33 remaining in the third period as Quinnipiac tried to clear the puck off an Edney shot ricocheted of the boards. The Bobcats clear attempt was picked off by Edney who wristed the puck on net where puck bounced past Laden for the goal.
The Crimson scored the game-winning goal 2:39 into the overtime period as the puck took a tough bounce for the Bobcats. Reber fired a shot from the right boards off a pass from Parker. The shot bounced up in front of Laden and off a slight deflection by D'Oench, trickled over Laden's shoulder and over the line for the winner.
Quinnipiac will await the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night at 7 P.M. to find out if they will make the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament as an at-large team, and who and when they will play if they qualify.
