QU Women's Ice Hockey Falls to No. 3 Seed Harvard 5-0 in NCAA Women's Hockey Quarterfinals

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team fell to the No. 3 seed Harvard Crimson 5-0 in the Bobcats first ever NCAA Tournament appearance Saturday evening at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Quinnipiac drops to 26-9-3 with the conclusion of its season while Harvard (26-5-3) moves on to face the No. 2 seed Boston College Eagles in the Frozen Four on March 20 at Riddler Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Abbey Frazer picked up a two-point game for the Crimson with a goal and an assist, including the game-winning goal 4:42 into the game. Karley Heffernan also recorded a goal and an assist for a two-point game. The Crimson also added goals from Haley Mullens, Samantha Reber and Sydney Daniels.
Emerance Maschmeyer recorded 20 saves in the victory for the Crimson while picking up her third shutout of the season. Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minnesota) made 10 saves on 13 shots before giving way to Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) who made eight saves on 10 shots.
Harvard took a 1-0 lead 4:42 into the first period on their second shot of the game. Lexie Laing won the puck on a faceoff in the right faceoff circle back to Briana Mastel. Mastel fired a shot on Laden where she made a pad save that kicked out to Frazer who stepped in from the left point to blast the puck past Laden.
Mullens made it 2-0 less than five minutes later to double Harvard's lead with 10:55 remaining in the first period. Heffernan gathered in the puck just to the right of the slot where she tapped the puck backwards to Mullens behind her. Mullens wristed a shot high glove side past Laden for the goal.
The Crimson gained a 3-0 advantage early in the second period as Miye D'Oench controlled a rebound kicked out to her in the slot. D'Oench backhanded a pass to Marissa Gedman on the point where her shot ricocheted away from the goal. Reber was positioned just below the end line where she gathered the puck and threw it on net where it bounced off Laden's back and into the net.
Daniels added a power play goal early in the third period for the Crimson as Frazer fired centering feed across the slot for Daniels who tucked the puck past Rossman sliding to the weak-side to give the Crimson a 4-0 lead.
Harvard made it 5-0 on Heffernan's goal with eight minutes in the third period. Heffernan received a pass from Laing and circled around the goal where she wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Rossman for the goal.
Quinnipiac wraps up its best season in program history as the Bobcats set numerous program records on their journey to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bobcats finished 26-9-3 (15-5-2 ECAC Hockey) to set program records for wins in a season as well as conference wins in a season while advancing to their fourth ECAC Hockey Semifinal as well.
