HANOVER, New Hampshire – Nationally-ranked No. 10 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey was dealt its first loss in 14 ECAC Hockey games, falling to Dartmouth, 3-1, in Hanover, New Hampshire. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 22-9-4 overall and 16-3-3 in leadgue play while Dartmouth improves to 15-10-4 overall and 12-8-2 league mark.
With less than seven minutes to play in the first frame, Eric Robinson dug the puck out of the corner to right of Garteig and centered a pass to Brad Shierborn in the slot for the one-timer. Tyler Sikura picked up the rebound, walked across the crease and flipped a back-handed shot past the outstretched stick of Garteig to give Dartmouth a 2-0 lead.
With three minutes to play in the second Derek Smith (Apple Valley, Minnesota) tied up a Dartmouth player along the boards, and denied a Big Green rush into the Quinnipiac defensive zone. Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) picked up the loose puck and centered a pass to Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland), who took off on a breakaway. Anas looked off a defender then worked the puck from his forehand to backhand before sliding the puck between the pads of Dartmouth's James Kruger to cut the Big Green's lead in half with his 20th goal of the season.
The third period played back-and-forth between both teams until McNally scored his second of the game with 1:51 to play. After a turnover deep in the Quinnipiac zone, Neiley came up with the puck and dished to McNally who walked across the crease and roofed the puck over Garteig to give Dartmouth a two-goal lead.
Quinnipiac, the 2014-15 ECAC Hockey Regular Season Cleary Cup Champions and No. 1 seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament, will have a bye for the upcoming first round of the bracket and will host the lowest-seeded team for a best-of-three games quarterfinals series on Mar. 13-15 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut.
