3/5/2011 12:00:00 AM | Men's Ice Hockey
HAMDEN,
Conn. - Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) scored the second fastest
goal in Quinnipiac and ECAC Hockey Tournament history just 15
seconds into the Bobcats' 4-0 shutout of Brown in the first game of
their best-of-three ECAC Hockey Tournament First-Round series at
the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac junior goalie
Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario) stopped 22 shots for the shutout,
the fourth all-time for Quinnipiac in the ECAC Hockey
tournament.
Quinnipiac also improved to 17-11 all-time in ECAC Hockey
Tournament history, including an 11-2 mark in the First Round, with
a 9-2 record at the TD Bank Sports Center for the opening round.
The Bobcats go to 14-13-8 on the season while Brown drops to
10-15-5 for the year.
The goal was the fastest at Quinnipiac since Ryan Olson scored 10
seconds into the Bobcats tilt with American International on Oct.
28, 2000. It was also the second fastest in ECAC Hockey Tournament
history, trailing Yale's Ryan Steeves and Cornell's Doug Ferguson,
who both scored 14 seconds into their playoff game in 2004 and
1966, respectively.
Four different Bobcats scored as Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal,
Quebec), Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Kellen Jones
(Montrose, British Columbia) joined Langlois in lighting the lamp.
10 different Bobcats collected points on the night, including Loren
Barron (Glendora, Calif.), who pushed his team-leading assist total
to 16. The Bobcats are now 13-2-4 when they score the first
goal.
Barron helped put the Bobcats on the board when he chipped the
puck out of the neutral zone to Langlois who took off down ice. As
several Quinnipiac skaters diverged on Brown goalie Michael
Clemente, Langlois banged home his team-leading 16th goal of the
season to put Quinnipiac out in front, 1-0.
Bouharevich sent Quinnipiac into the first intermission with a
two-goal lead with his seventh marker of the season at the 12:56
mark. Sophomore Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) sent a pass to
sophomore Ben Arnt (Oakland, Minn.) who attempted to tip it past
Clemente. The puck was loose in the crease behind the Bears' goalie
when Bouharevich was able to pick it up and send it home.
In the second period, sophomore Russell Goodman (Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan) rushed the net before dropping a pass to junior
captain Scott Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Zurevinski
hooked up with Hansen, who blasted the puck past Clemente to give
Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead. It was Kellen Jones' goal, on a pass from
twin brother Connor, that finally chased Clemente in favor of
Anthony Borelli.
Clarke stymied the Brown offense for most of the game as the Quinnipiac back-check dominated play and continuously cleared pucks out the zone. In the end, Quinnipiac out-shot Brown 27-22.
The Bobcats and Bears are back in action on Saturday, March 5 at 7
p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center for Game 2 of the ECAC Hockey
Tournament First Round series. Should Quinnipiac defeat Brown, they
would advance to the ECAC Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals for the
sixth straight season, while a Brown win would bring the third and
deciding game back to the TD Bank Sports Center on Sunday, March 6
at 7 p.m.
