Baseball Falls to Fairfield on Saturday

Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats dropped the middle game of the series to the Fairfield Stags, 11-2, on Saturday afternoon in Hamden. With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 21-23 overall and 12-11 in MAAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fairfield got on the board first, plating two runs in the opening inning. Matt Bucciero got the scoring started with an RBI single to center. Nolan Colby followed up, drawing a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0 Fairfield.
In the home half of the opening inning, James Marino drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring the Bobcats within one.
The Stags extended their lead to three in the second inning, scoring two more runs. Bucciero made it a 3-1 game with a sac fly to right, and JP Kuczik doubled home another run to make it a 4-1 game.
In the third inning, Fairfield plated another run as Ryan Paine singled up the middle, making it a four-run lead for the away team.
Fairfield plated their sixth run of the game in the fourth inning as Bucciero doubled to right to make it a 6-1 lead.
The game remained 6-1 until the Stags plated a run on a fielding error, extending their lead to six.
Quinnipiac got a run back in the home half of the seventh inning as Jack Balcer doubled home, Alex Irizarry with QU's second run of the game.
Fairfield extended their lead back to seven in the top of the eighth inning as Jake Haarde brought in two runs on a single to right center. Later in the inning, Luke Spencer doubled into left center, making it a 10-2 game. Ryan Paine tacked on another run with a run-scoring single to put the Stags up nine.

- Four Bobcats recorded hits in the loss to the Stags.
- Alex Irizarry was the lone Bobcat to record multiple hits in the loss. Irizarry went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
- Irizarry raised his season average to .302 in the loss, which is good for the best on the team.
- Jack Balcer picked up a hit in three at-bats, recording an RBI on his double in the seventh inning.
