Marino's Big Day Leads Bobcats to Series Win over Fairfield

Hamden, Conn. – James Marino recorded the game-winning RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, earning the Bobcats a 5-4 victory in the series finale against the Fairfield Stags on Sunday. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 22-23 overall and 13-11 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fairfield struck first in the series finale as Matt Bucciero singled to left field to score TJ Schmalzle with the game's first run.
The game would remain 1-0 Fairfield until the bottom of the fourth inning when James Marino came up to the plate. With two runners on, James Marino unloaded on a pitch and sent it over the wall for a three-run homer, putting the Bobcats in front.
The Stags were able to knot the game up at three in their half of the sixth inning as two runs came home on a fielding error.
In the home half of the sixth inning, the Bobcats were able to take the lead right back as Cole Constable flew out to center field, allowing Alex Irizarry to come home, making it a 4-3 game.
In the seventh inning, Matt Bucciero tied the game up at four as he launched a solo blast to left center field.
With the game knotted at four and the bases loaded for the Bobcats in the bottom of the ninth, James Marino got hit by a pitch to walk it off for the Bobcats, winning the series.

- James Marino went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored. Marino hit his sixth home run of the season, which is tied for the team lead.
- Marino was hit by a pitch for the eighth time this year as he walked it off for the Bobcats.
- Alex Irizarry went 2-for-4 at the dish with two runs scored. Irizarry is hitting .307 on the year, which leads the team.
