Bobcats Split Run-Rule Doubleheader with Sacred Heart

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team split Friday's doubleheader against Sacred Heart, with both games ending in run-rule fashion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
The Bobcats struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly from Ally Hochstadter before adding two more runs on a SHU fielding error to take an early 3-0 lead.
After a leadoff single from Kinsley Cox and a double by Aryn Bombery, Mary Fogg kept the momentum going with an RBI single. Sofia Vega then worked a walk to load the bases, and DeMott cleared them with a three-run double to extend the lead to 7-0.
Sacred Heart got one back in the fourth, but the Bobcats responded with five unanswered runs, capitalizing on three defensive errors and adding an RBI single from Cox to secure the 12-1 run-rule victory.
Shannon Kendall improved to 14-12 on the season, tossing her 13th complete game while allowing one run on four hits and striking out one.
Game Two
Sacred Heart opened the scoring in the third inning, plating three runs on four consecutive hits.
Quinnipiac cut into the deficit in the fourth when Mac Davis scored on a fielding error, but the Pioneers pulled away with an eight-run sixth inning to earn their 11-1 run-rule win.
The Bobcats will look to take the rubber match on Senior Day as they aim to clinch a spot in the MAAC Tournament.
