Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats were powered by timely hits and a solid showing on the mound from Andrew Rubayo in the series-opening victory over the Fairfield Stags, 7-0. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 21-22 overall and 12-10 in MAAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After two scoreless innings, the Bobcats got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning as Alex Irizarry doubled home two runs to give the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead.

The game remained 2-0 until the sixth inning, when James Marino launched his fifth home run of the season to make it a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning, Kyle Garbowski drew a walk with the bases loaded, making it a 4-0 game.

With the Bobcats' lead being 4-0 heading into the eighth inning, Christian Smith unloaded on a pitch, launching his sixth home run of the season, to make it a 7-0 game.

Mason Ulsh and Matt Alduino combined for the final six outs to close out the series-opening victory over the Stags.

NEWS AND NOTES

Five Bobcats recorded hits in the series opener against the Stags, with three recording multiple hits in the win.
Christian Smith had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Smith launched his sixth home run of the season with his three-run blast in the eighth inning. Smith leads the team with six home runs on the season.
Kyle Garbowski picked up two hits in five at-bats with an RBI in the win over the Stags. Garbowski scored two runs, giving him 28 runs scored on the season.
Caden Williamson picked up two hits in the win, giving him 53 on the season, which leads the team.
Alex Irizarry brought in two RBIs with one hit in the win. Irizarry now leads the team with 32 RBIs this year.
James Marino hit his fifth home run of the season with his solo blast in the sixth inning.
Andrew Rubayo had another solid start, going seven innings, allowing just three hits, one walk, and striking out six in the win.
Mason Ulsh and Matt Alduino combined for the final six outs and struck out a combined three batters.
Quinnipiac shut out the Stags for the first time since April 24^th, 2008 (3-0 win).
This also marks Quinnipiac's first win on a Friday since the Canisius series (April 17^th).
