HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, the Mountaineers got on the board in their half of the second inning with an RBI double to left field, giving the guests an early one-run lead.
Mount St. Mary's doubled their lead in the third inning, making it a 2-0 game on another RBI double to left field.
The Mount continued to add on more runs in the fourth inning, scoring two to make it a 4-0 game through the top half of the fourth inning. Peyton Vancas got the Bobcats on the board with an RBI groundout in the home half of the inning.
A three-run top of the seventh inning gave the Mountaineers a 7-1 advantage heading into the seventh-inning stretch.
After shutting down the Bobcats in the bottom of the seventh, the Mount added two more insurance runs in the eighth inning, making it a 9-1 game.
Mount St. Mary's scored another two runs in the ninth inning with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Six Bobcats recorded at least one hit in the series-opening loss to Mount St. Mary's.
- Jack Balcer was the lone Bobcat to record multiple hits in the loss, recording two. Balcer picked up a double and a run scored in the effort.
- Caden Williamson, Alex Irizarry, Chase Camac, Cole Constable, and Sam Ametrano each picked up a hit in the loss.
- Ametrano's single in the ninth inning was his first collegiate base hit.
- Peyton Vancas recorded his 23rd RBI of the season with his RBI groundout in the fourth inning.
- Irizarry and Constable both stole a base in the loss. Irizarry recorded his seventh, while Constable stole his eighth base of the season.
- Four Bobcats toed the rubber in the series opener, with Joseph Hiller getting the start. Hiller went 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, and striking out three.
- Mason Ulsh went 3.1 innings in relief and allowed three runs on four hits, while striking out one.
- J.c Franconere and James Pazdera combined for the final two innings, combining to allow four runs on three hits.
