Baseball Takes Series Finale at Marist

Poughkeepsie, New York – Nick Balcom had a solid start in the series finale to help the Bobcats avoid the series sweep, defeating the Red Foxes, 6-2, on Sunday in Poughkeepsie. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 14-19 overall and 7-8 in MAAC play.
Quinnipiac has won five straight contests on the final day of the series and avoided the sweep in four of those contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
James Marino got the Bobcats on the board first in the opening inning as he brought home both Alex Irizarry and Jack Balcer to give QU an early 2-0 lead.
The next inning, Peyton Vancas gave Quinnipiac a three-run lead as he singled home Kyle Garbowski to make it 3-0 Bobcats.
The game remained 3-0 until the Bobcats came up to bat in the fifth inning. Alex Irizarry made it a four-run game as he doubled home Cole Constable on a 1-0 count.
Quinnipiac struck again in the sixth inning, making it a 5-0 game. With two runners on, Cole Constable singled home James Marino to give QU a five-run lead. Marist got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double to make it a four-run game.
In the eighth inning, the Bobcats stretched their lead back to five as Chase Camac flew out to right field, allowing Kyle Garbowski to come home with QU's sixth run of the contest. Marist drew a bases-loaded walk in their half of the eighth inning, but that's all they would get as QU sealed the 6-2 victory in the series finale.

- Six different Bobcats recorded hits in the win over the Red Foxes. Four of the Bobcats recorded multiple hits in the effort.
- Alex Irizarry went 3-for-5 at the dish and hit two more doubles, giving him five on the season.
- Irizarry also drove in his 24th RBI of the season, which ranks first on the team.
- Irizarry recorded three hits in back-to-back games as he raised his batting average to .288 on the season.
- Peyton Vancas picked up three hits in the win, raising his season average to .289. Vancas has recorded multiple hits in seven contests this season.
- James Marino went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs in the series finale at Marist. Marino ranks first on the team with a .354 batting average and second on the team with 23 RBIs.
