Bobcats Defeat Saint Peter's in Series Opener

Jersey City, New Jersey – The Quinnipiac Bobcats opened the series against the Saint Peter's Peacocks with a 12-2 win on Friday afternoon at Jaroschak Field. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 9-14 on the season and 3-4 in MAAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless opening two innings, Quinnipiac got on the board first in the third inning. Cole Constable scored Christian Smith with a sacrifice fly to right field to get the Bobcats on the board. Saint Peter's got the run back in the bottom half of the inning as Bobby Lavely reached on an error, allowing a run to score.
Quinnipiac put up a crooked number in the fourth inning to regain the lead. With two runners on, Peyton Vancas laced a double to left field, scoring both James Marino and Jack Balcer. Later in the inning, Vancas came in to score as Cole Constable reached on a fielder's choice. Christian Smith knocked in QU's fourth run of the inning, doubling home Cole Constable.
The Bobcats improved on their lead the next inning, as James Marino launched a two-run home run over the right field fence to make it a 7-1 ballgame.
Quinnipiac came back up in the sixth inning and added on more. Jack Balcer made it an 8-1 game with an RBI single to left field, and Vancas grounded out to score Smith, making it a 9-1 contest. Saint Peter's got a run back in their half of the inning, cutting the deficit to seven.
In the seventh inning, Christian Smith doubled home Kyle Garbowski to give the Bobcats an eight-run lead.
QU added two more runs in the eighth inning on back-to-back sacrifice flies. The Bobcats' bullpen was solid once again as Mike Poncini and Maddex Labuda combined for the final three innings to seal the win in the series opener.
