Seven Run First Inning Powers QU to First MAAC Win of Season

Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats took the series finale, 10-2, from the Sacred Heart Pioneers, as they avoided the sweep in their first MAAC series of the season. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Andrew Rubayo set the Pioneers down in order to start the contest, bringing the Bobcats up to the plate with a 0-0 score. Quinnipiac took full advantage of the shutdown inning, scoring seven in their half of the first to open a seven-run lead.
Cole Constable got the scoring started as he flew out to center, bringing home Caden Williamson with the game's first run. With two outs in the inning, James Marino put the ball in play, and Peyton Vancas beat the play at second to extend the inning as Alex Irizarry scored the second run of the inning. Matt Park, the next batter, stood in the box and got hit with the pitch to bring home the third run of the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Brendan Edvardsen unloaded on a pitch, sending it over the left field wall for a grand slam to give the Bobcats a seven-run first inning.
The score would remain 7-0 until the fourth inning, when Ronan Donohue singled home Jacob Schmutz to cut the Sacred Heart deficit to six.
Quinnipiac got that run back in the bottom half of the sixth inning as Cole Constable singled to the shortstop, scoring Caden Williamson to make it 8-1, Bobcats.
After the Pioneers made it an 8-2 game in the top half of the seventh, the Bobcats added on two more runs to make it a 10-2 ballgame. Matt Park doubled down the right field line, scoring James Marino from first base. Park would later come in to score on a Caden Williamson groundout for QU's tenth run of the contest.
J.C. Franconere and Matt Alduino pitched the final two innings for the Bobcats, shutting the door and helping the Bobcats earn their first MAAC win of the season.
