NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The Quinnipiac softball team split its doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, setting up a winner-take-all game on Sunday in the weekend series with Iona.

It was a pair of run-rule contests, as the Bobcats knocked off the Gaels 10-2 in six innings before Iona returned the favor with a 10-2 win in five in the second matchup.

The Bobcats used a persistent offensive attack in the opener, scoring at least two runs in the second through fifth innings to open up a 9-0 advantage.

Mary Fogg was 3-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring triples, while the top three batters of Fogg, Sofia Vega and Natalia Apatiga were a combined 6-for-12 with four RBI in game one.

Game two saw Iona take control early, with the Gaels going up 4-0 after two and 7-0 after four. The Bobcats put a pair on the board in the fifth thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Vega, but Iona ended the contest with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.

Shannon Kendall went the distance in game one, striking out five and sprinkling seven hits across six innings.

STATS AND NOTES

Fogg joins Peyton Pusey of Marist as the only two MAAC players with multi-triple outings this season. It was the first such performance of Fogg's career.
She also extended her hitting streak to 10 games before being held without a knock in game two.
Kinsley Cox pushed her hitting streak to six games with a hit in each contest today. She is 9-for-16 since the streak began on March 8.
Noelle Reid has a hit in three straight and five of her last six outings.
Kendall's five Ks are a new career-best for her.
