HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
Kyle Garbowski got the Bobcats on the board first in the third inning as he singled to center field to score Ian Nilsen. The North Florida Ospreys responded in their half of the inning, scoring two to take the lead.
Quinnipiac got even in the fourth inning as Alex Irizarry came in to score on a groundout to knot it up at two. However, UNF answered right back, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Bobcats answered once again, striking for two runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Kyle Garbowski knotted the game up at three as he doubled home Ian Nilsen. The next batter, Matt Park, grounded out, but Caden Williamson crossed home to put the Bobcats in front.
Quinnipiac got two more runs in the top of the ninth to give them a 6-3 lead. Matt Alduino shut the door in the bottom half as QU won the first game of the doubleheader.
Game Two
Alex Irizarry got the Bobcats on the board in the second inning as Brendan Edvardsen came home on a single in the third inning.
In the fifth inning, the Bobcats extended their lead to four. Jack Balcer flew out and Kyle Garbowski scored to make it a two-run lead for QU. Peyton Vancas doubled their lead with a two-run single later in the inning.
It was all Ospreys after that, scoring five straight runs to secure the win in the series finale to take the series from QU.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Seven Bobcats recorded hits in the opening game of the doubleheader, led by Kyle Garbowski and Ian Nilsen recording two each.
- Garbowski drove in two runs, while Matt Park, Jack Balcer, Luke Zeisloft, and Caden Williamson each drove in one.
- J.C. Franconere recorded the win, pitching 2.1 innings in relief, striking out three.
- Matt Alduino picked up the save, going 2.0 innings, striking out three, and allowing just one hit.
- In Game Two of the doubleheader, six Bobcats recorded hits in the loss, led by Garbowski, who recorded two hits for the fourth straight game.
- Peyton Vancas recorded two RBIs in the effort, pushing his season total to three.
- Andrew Rubayo pitched 6.0 strong innings for the Bobcats, striking out eight and allowing just two runs.
