Men's Hoops Falls Against Merrimack in League Action

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's basketball fell vs. Merrimack, 56-49, on Sunday afternoon from M&T Bank Arena in Hamden. The Bobcats move to 11-6 in league play with the result.
Amarri Monroe registered his 12th double-double of the season (10 points, 15 rebounds) in the contest. The reigning MAAC Player of the Year has nine double-doubles over 17 league contests.
Grant Randall led QU with 16 points. The sophomore also grabbed six rebounds.
First-year forward Keith McKnight added eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Bobcats.
Kevair Kennedy led Merrimack with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Warriors held Quinnipiac to just 17-61 (27.9%) shooting for the game, and QU went just 1-for-16 from 3-point distance.

The Warriors went on a 9-0 run to begin the game, then Quinnipiac quickly responded with eight straight points of their own to make it 9-8. Quinnipiac and Merrimack were tied at 21 at the end of the first half. Kevair Kennedy led all scorers with 10 at the break. Jaden Zimmerman led QU scorers with six, while Amarri Monroe grabbed 14 rebounds over the first 20 minutes.
The Bobcats scored eight straight to open up the second half, taking a 29-21 lead. Merrimack would battle back, retaking the lead with 10:18 left on a KC Ugwuakazi layup.
The two teams went back and forth down the stretch until Merrimack eventually extended its lead to seven with just 53 seconds left on a pair of Kennedy free throws.

- Amarri Monroe finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds – good for his 12 double-double of the year. The reigning MAAC Player of the Year is averaging 15.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in 17 league games. He also led QU in blocks (3) and steals (2).
- Grant Randall led all QU scorers with 16. He's reached double figure scoring totals in four of the last six for QU. 16 points is his most since 1/30 against Sacred Heart, when he poured in 18 points.
- Jaden Zimmerman added nine points.
- Keith McKnight stuffed the stat sheet with eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench. It marks the second time during his collegiate career that McKnight has surpassed 10 rebounds (grabbed career-high 12 rebounds against Manhattan on 1/19).
- Spence Wewe grabbed nine rebounds. He finishes the two game weekend with 19 boards in total.
- The Bobcats outrebounded the Warriors 46-23.
- The Bobcats finished with a 28-24 advantage on points in the paint. QU also held a 19-3 advantage in second-chance points.
- Quinnipiac is 1-3 against Merrimack since the Warriors joined the MAAC.
