Bobcats Split Doubleheader with Saints on Senior Day

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Bobcats defeated the Saints in the first game of the doubleheader, 13-7, before dropping the second game by a final score of 9-6 to begin their final home series of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
The Bobcats celebrated their seniors in a big way, starting the game with a six-run first inning. Johnny Knox got the game started with a single to center field and scored the game's first run as Kyle Garbowski reached on an error. CJ Willis continued the scoring with an RBI single to center field, bringing home Garbowski with the second run of the inning. Sebastian Mueller and Christian Smith continued the inning with back-to-back RBI singles to score two more runs. With two runners on and one out in the inning, Cole Constable tripled home Mueller and Smith, making it a 5-0 game. Constable would score the sixth run of the inning to give Quinnipiac an early 6-0 lead.
In the third inning, Siena got a run back on an RBI single, but the Bobcats still held a 6-1 advantage. Quinnipiac responded in the bottom half of the inning as Cole Constable doubled home James Marino to bring the lead back to six. Constable would later score on an error to give QU an 8-1 lead.
Siena would go on to score two runs in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth, and one in the sixth to make it a three-run game.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Sebastian Mueller built on Quinnipiac's lead as he singled home Kyle Garbowski to make it 9-5. Later in the inning, Cole Constable put an exclamation point on his day as he launched a grand slam to make it 13-5 Bobcats.
Siena scored two runs in the ninth to make it 13-7, but they would not get any closer, and Andrew Rubayo closed out the win in the first of two.
Game Two
Siena started game two by scoring two runs in the first inning to give them an early lead. The Saints would hold their two-run lead until the Bobcats came up to bat in the third inning.
Kyle Garbowski got the Bobcats on the board on a sacrifice fly, scoring Sean McCulloch to cut the deficit to one. CJ Willis would put the Bobcats in front with a two-run single as Gabe Wright and Johnny Knox scored. Willis would later score as Mueller stole second to give the Bobcats a 4-2 lead.
Quinnipiac stretched its lead to three in the fifth inning as Willis scored on a fly out from Sebastian Mueller. Johnny Knox would bring home Jackson Bryan on an RBI single in the sixth inning to give Quinnipiac a 6-2 advantage.
Siena made it a one-run game in the seventh inning and continued to score more runs in the eighth, taking a three-run lead, 9-6.
The Bobcats were held off the board for the final three innings as Siena took the second game of the doubleheader to even the series.
