Constable Throws Out Runner to Close Out Win in Game One

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Cole Constable caught the Pioneer runner stealing second base to seal the game one victory over the Pioneers, 4-3. The Bobcats scored three runs in the seventh inning to power them back past Sacred Heart.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac got the scoring started in the opening inning as Sean McCulloch launched a solo home run down the left-field line to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.
The game would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Pioneers scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Quinnipiac would immediately respond in the top of the seventh inning with three runs of their own. Gabe Wrigth reached on an error, which allowed Alex Irizarry and Cole Constable to both score. Sean McCulloch followed up by reaching on another error, allowing Gabe Wright to come home and make it 4-2 Bobcats.
Sacred Heart made it a one-run game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a run-scoring double. The Pioneers threatened in the ninth inning, but Cole Constable caught the runner stealing to seal the win for the Bobcats.

- Six Bobcats recorded at least one hit in the series opener, and two Bobcats recorded multiple hits in the win.
- Sean McCulloch hit a leadoff home run for his first home run of the season.
- McCulloch recorded his 31st stolen base of the season, tying the program's Division I record.
- Alex Irizarry notched two hits in his return to the lineup. He is now batting .319 on the season in 45 games played.
- Cole Constable notched two hits, bringing his average up to .326.
- Andrew Rubayo was credited with his fifth win of the season as he pitched 2.2 innings in relief.
