HOW IT HAPPENED
Alex Irizarry got the Bobcats on the board in the opening inning as he singled home Sean McCulloch with the game's first run.
The Pioneers responded in the bottom of the second inning, plating two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Sacred Heart made it a two-run game in the next inning off an RBI double.
In the sixth inning, the Bobcats made it a one-run game as Sebastian Mueller blasted his team-leading 14th home run of the season. Sacred Heart immediately responded in the bottom half of the inning, making it a 5-2 game.
Quinnipiac would take the lead in the seventh inning as eight runs crossed the plate. Gabe Wright got the inning started with a solo home run to right field. Later in the inning, Alex Irizarry singled through the right side to score McCulloch to make it a one-run game. Sebastian Mueller was the next hitter and singled through the left side, bringing in two runs to give the Bobcats the lead. Still with no outs in the inning, Johnny Knox singled home Irizarry to provide Quinnipiac with a 7-5 lead. After Cole Constable was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Gabe Wright forced a bases-loaded walk, making it a four-run game. Sean McCulloch would bring in the eighth run of the inning with an RBI groundout. Sacred Heart made it a four-run game with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning, but Quinnipiac still led, 10-6.
The Pioneers got closer in the eighth inning as they made it a one-run game. With two outs in the ninth inning, a pinch-hitter singled through the infield to score two runs and walk it off for the Pioneers.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Six Bobcats recorded at least one hit in the second game of the series, and three Bobcats recorded multiple hits in the win.
- Sebastian Mueller led the offense with three RBIs as he went 4-for-5 at the plate.
- Mueller hit his team-leading 14th home run of the season with his blast in the sixth inning.
- Gabe Wright picked up three hits in the loss and drove in two RBIs.
- Wright hit his fourth home run of the season with his leadoff homer in the seventh inning.
- Wright stole three bases in the game, pushing his season total to 19.
- Alex Irizarry notched two hits and drove in two runs, pushing his RBI total to 46.
- Nick Balcom got the start and went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs and striking out four.
- The Bobcats will battle the Pioneers on Saturday, May 17th, in the regular season finale. First pitch from Veterans Park is slated for 1 PM.
