HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac and Rhode Island were both held off the scoreboard for the first inning and Rhode Island didn't allow the Bobcats to score in the second.
However, the Rams were able to score two runs in their half of the second inning to open the scoring. A two-run single got their scoring started and an RBI groundout in the third inning made it a 3-0 game.
Rhode Island tacked on six runs in the fourth inning to break the game open and give themselves a 9-0 lead. Quinnipiac responded in the top of the fifth inning with three runs. Kyle Garbowski grounded out to first base to score Gabe Wright from third with the Bobcats' first run of the game. With two outs in the inning, Sebastian Mueller reached on an error by the second baseman, allowing Luke Zeisloft to come home with the second run of the inning. As the next batter, Alex Irizarry singled through the right side to bring home their third run of the inning.
Rhode Island scored the game's next two runs, one in the sixth and one in the seventh inning. Quinnipiac got closer in the eighth inning, as they scored four runs to make it a four-run game. With two outs in the inning, Johnny Knox doubled to left field to score Christian Smith to get the scoring started. With the bases loaded, Sean McCulloch singled through the infield to bring home two more runs. McCulloch then stole second base and Zeisloft came home on the throw to make it an 11-7 game.
That would be the closest Quinnipiac would get as Rhode Island closed out the 11-7 win in the midweek contest.
