HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team returns home for the first time since March 30th as they welcome the Merrimack Warriors for a three-game series. The series will kick off on Friday with a doubleheader on Friday, April 11th starting at noon.
HISTORY VS. MERRIMACK
- Friday's matchup will be the 4th time the two programs are facing off in their Division-I history.
- The Bobcats lead the series 2-1 after taking the series from the Warriors last season.
- The last time the two teams faced off, the Bobcats defeated the Warriors 21-3 back on March 3rd, 2024. Christian Smith drove in nine RBIs and hit two home runs in the win.
- Merrimack will enter the weekend series with a 10-21-1 overall record and a 7-8 record in MAAC play.
- Merrimack is coming off a weekend series loss to the Siena Saints last weekend (April 4-6). The Warriors dropped the opening game of the series, 5-3, before taking game two by a final score of 16-13. The Saints took the series finale 10-0 in an eight-inning mercy rule.
- Merrimack currently sits in seventh place in the conference with a 7-8 MAAC play in their first season in the conference.
- Cavan Brady and Logan Castellano are tied for the team lead with a .270 batting average. Brady has started all 32 games for the Warriors and has driven in 16 runs and has four home runs on the season. Castellano has appeared in 31 games and has driven in a team-high 21 RBIs.
- Andrew Heffernan has started seven games on the bump for Merrimack and holds a 2-5 record. Heffernan has struck out 20 batters in 43.2 innings pitched and has an ERA of 4.12.
- The Bobcats dropped their midweek contest at the University of Rhode Island, 11-7, on Wednesday afternoon.
- The Rams got out to a 9-0 lead through the first four innings of the game before a three-run fifth inning from Quinnipiac brought them closer.
- After the Rams made it an 11-3 game in the seventh inning, Quinnipiac scored four runs in the eighth inning to make it just a four-run game.
- Rhode Island held the Bobcats off the board in the final inning to defeat the Bobcats and earn a split in the season series.
- 20 – Quinnipiac steals the 20th most bases in the NCAA with 78, good for second in the MAAC.
- 37 – Christian Smith is 37th in the NCAA with 42 RBIs, which is also the most RBIs in the conference.
- 44 – As a team, the Bobcats have the 44th-best batting average in Division I (.305) and are one of two teams in the MAAC with a batting average of .300 or more.
- 44 – The Bobcats are 44th in the NCAA with 337 total hits this season, which leads the MAAC.
- 47 – QU also ranks 47th in the NCAA with 269 total runs scored, leading the MAAC.
- 61 – Quinnipiac is 61st in Division I with an on-base percentage of .412, which is good for second in the MAAC.

- The Quinnipiac Baseball team was picked to finish 4th in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
- Outfielder CJ Willis was the lone Bobcat representative on the Preseason All-MAAC team.
- The senior started 49 games last season and had a batting average of .284.
- Willis hit eight home runs, eleven doubles, and three triples while driving in 42 RBIs.
- Willis Drove in a season-high four RBIs in the win against UMass (5/1).
- The Bobcats return 15 players from last year's team, with 12 of those players seeing game action.
- Gabe Wright, Christian Smith, Kyle Garbowski, CJ Willis, Sebastian Mueller, and James Marino will be key returners on the offensive side of the plate.
- Jack Kabel, Ryan Hutchinson, Mike Poncini, Jack Gannon, Matt Alduino, and Andrew Rubayo will look to make an impact when they toe the rubber.
- Matt Alduino and Andrew Rubayo were named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watchlist.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 16 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill the holes in their lineup, grabbing Sean McCulloch (Susquehanna), Johnny Knox (Nichols College), Alex Irizarry (Maryland), Josh Lajoie (Lipscomb), Ryan O'Connell (St. Bonaventure), Griffin Seibel (Xavier), Cole Constable (Maryland), Luke Zeisloft (Maryland), Jack Bryan (Trevecca Nazarene), and Nick Balcom (Finger Lakes Community College).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, J.C. Franconere from Sparta, New Jersey, Samuel Wright from Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Austin Ludwig from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Ian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, Christian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, and Matt Park from Bridgewater, New Jersey.
- The Bobcats will open up MAAC play on March 7th as they start a three-game home series against the Iona Gaels.
- Quinnipiac will battle in-state rival Yale on March 19th at Yale (3 PM) and at home against Yale on April 15th (3 PM).
- On April 1st, the Bobcats will travel to Storrs to take on the UConn Huskies in a midweek non-conference matchup.
- Quinnipiac will play their final home series of the season from May 8-12 as the Siena Saints come to Hamden.
- QU will wrap up the regular season at Sacred Heart for a three-game set from May 15-17.
