KINGSTON, R.I. – The Quinnipiac baseball team will take on the Rhode Island Rams for the second time this season as they travel to Kingston on Wednesday, April 9th. The first pitch from Bill Beck Field is slated for 3 PM.
HISTORY VS. RHODE ISLAND
- Wednesday's matchup will be the 25th time the two programs are facing off in their Division-I history.
- The Rams lead the all-time series 20-4 and are 13-1 against the Bobcats on their home field.
- This will be the second time this season that the Bobcats and Rams will match up. Quinnipiac won the previous meeting 9-8 (March 25, 2025) in Hamden.
- Rhode Island will enter the matchup on Wednesday with an 18-13 overall record and an 8-4 record in A10 play.
- The Rams are coming off a series win over the Richmond Spiders on their home turf. Rhode Island dropped the opening game of the series, before outscoring the Spiders 32-10 in the final two games to take the series.
- Rhode Island currently sits in third place in the A10 and is just one game back of first place (Davidson – 9-3).
- Anthony DePino was named the A10 Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after he hit for the cycle in URI's 20-1 win over Richmond. DePino finished the week going 9-for-15 and nine RBIs.
- DePino leads the Rams with a .435 batting average in 29 starts. DePino has hit 13 home runs and has driven in 38 runs this season. The Madison, CT native ranks 11th in the NCAA in batting average and is tied for 14th in home runs.
- The Bobcats swept the Niagara Purple Eagles for the first time since the 2019 season last weekend on the road.
- Quinnipiac and Niagara needed extra innings in the series opener to decide the winner and back-to-back home runs in the 11th inning from Kyle Garbowski and CJ Willis propelled the Bobcats past Niagara.
- In game two, Alex Irizarry drove in five runs to help Quinnipiac earn the doubleheader sweep. Irizarry hit home runs in consecutive at-bats to seal the win.
- In the series finale, the Bobcats used a six-run sixth inning to help them sweep the series from the Purple Eagles.
- 18 – Quinnipiac steals the 18th most bases in the NCAA with 75, good for second in the MAAC.
- 29 – Christian Smith is 29th in the NCAA with 42 RBIs, which is also the most RBIs in the conference.
- 36 – As a team, the Bobcats have the 36th-best batting average in Division I (.309) and are the only team in the MAAC with a batting average of .300 or more.
- 38 – The Bobcats are 38th in the NCAA with 331 total hits this season, which leads the MAAC.
- 44 – QU also ranks 44th in the NCAA with 262 total runs scored, leading the MAAC.
- 50 – Quinnipiac is 50th in Division I with an on-base percentage of .416, tied with Fairfield for the conference lead.
- 62 – Quinnipiac ranks 62nd in Division I with 41 total home runs, which also leads the conference.

- The Quinnipiac Baseball team was picked to finish 4th in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
- Outfielder CJ Willis was the lone Bobcat representative on the Preseason All-MAAC team.
- The senior started 49 games last season and had a batting average of .284.
- Willis hit eight home runs, eleven doubles, and three triples while driving in 42 RBIs.
- Willis Drove in a season-high four RBIs in the win against UMass (5/1).
- The Bobcats return 15 players from last year's team, with 12 of those players seeing game action.
- Gabe Wright, Christian Smith, Kyle Garbowski, CJ Willis, Sebastian Mueller, and James Marino will be key returners on the offensive side of the plate.
- Jack Kabel, Ryan Hutchinson, Mike Poncini, Jack Gannon, Matt Alduino, and Andrew Rubayo will look to make an impact when they toe the rubber.
- Matt Alduino and Andrew Rubayo were named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watchlist.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 16 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill the holes in their lineup, grabbing Sean McCulloch (Susquehanna), Johnny Knox (Nichols College), Alex Irizarry (Maryland), Josh Lajoie (Lipscomb), Ryan O'Connell (St. Bonaventure), Griffin Seibel (Xavier), Cole Constable (Maryland), Luke Zeisloft (Maryland), Jack Bryan (Trevecca Nazarene), and Nick Balcom (Finger Lakes Community College).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, J.C. Franconere from Sparta, New Jersey, Samuel Wright from Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Austin Ludwig from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Ian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, Christian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, and Matt Park from Bridgewater, New Jersey.
- The Bobcats will open up MAAC play on March 7th as they start a three-game home series against the Iona Gaels.
- Quinnipiac will battle in-state rival Yale on March 19th at Yale (3 PM) and at home against Yale on April 15th (3 PM).
- On April 1st, the Bobcats will travel to Storrs to take on the UConn Huskies in a midweek non-conference matchup.
- Quinnipiac will play their final home series of the season from May 8-12 as the Siena Saints come to Hamden.
- QU will wrap up the regular season at Sacred Heart for a three-game set from May 15-17.
NEXT TIME OUT
- The Bobcats will return to Hamden to take on the Merrimack Warriors in a three-game series. This will be the first series between the two teams since Merrimack joined the MAAC.
