Quinnipiac Scores Six in Seventh to Down CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats scored six runs in the top half of the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the CCSU Blue Devils 9-6 on Friday afternoon in New Britain.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Central Connecticut got on the board first as they scored three runs in the opening inning to take the early 3-0 lead.
CCSU tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run home run, giving them a 5-0 lead through the first two innings.
Quinnipiac got on the board in the third inning as they scored three runs to make it a two-run game. Sean McCulloch got the scoring started for Quinnipiac with an RBI single up the middle to score Gabe Wright. CJ Willis brought in the Bobcats' second run of the inning as he scored Kyle Garbowski on an RBI groundout to first base. Sebastian Mueller brought home Sean McCulloch with an RBI groundout to third as the Bobcats got within two. CCSU responded in the bottom half of the third inning to push their lead back to three.
The game remained 6-3 in CCSU's favor until the seventh inning, when the Bobcats plated six runs in their half of the inning. Johnny Knox got Quinnipiac's scoring started in the inning as he launched a two-run home run to center field. With two runners on, Sean McCulloch singled to center field, bringing home Jackson Bryan to knot the game up at six. CJ Willis gave the Bobcats a two-run lead as he hit a two-run double to deep center field, clearing the bases. Alex Irizarry hit a sacrifice fly to give the Bobcats an insurance run as they led 9-6.
The Quinnipiac duo of Griffin Seibel and Ryan Hutchinson combined for the final nine outs as they closed out the come-from-behind victory.

NEWS AND NOTES
- Eight Bobcats recorded at least one hit in the win over CCSU and three of those eight recorded multiple hits.
- Five different Bobcats recorded an RBI to power them past the Blue Devils.
- CJ Willis went 2-for-4 at the dish, driving in three RBIs to give him 43 on the season.
- Willis is now hitting .333, which is good for fourth on the team.
- Johnny Knox hit his fifth home run of the season with his two-run blast in the seventh inning.
- Kyle Garbowski picked up three hits in the win to raise his batting average to .342, which is second on the team.
- Garbowski extended his hit streak to five straight games.
- Sean McCulloch extended his on-base streak to 34 games and has reached base safely in 34 of 35 games he has played this season.
- McCulloch stole two more bases in the win, giving him 24 stolen bases this season. He is now eight stolen bases shy of breaking the Division I single-season record at Quinnipiac.
- The Bobcats will be back on their home field tomorrow, Saturday, April 19th, as they host CCSU with a noon start time.
