WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Quinnipiac baseball team fell in both contests on Opening Day, losing to Georgia 9-1 and UNC Wilmington 12-1 (F/8) on Friday afternoon.

The Bobcats start the season with a 0-2 record, while Georgia and UNC Wilmington both pick up their first wins of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
The Georgia Bulldogs got the scoring started early, as they struck for five runs in the bottom of the first inning.

After Johnny Knox hit a triple for his first hit as a Bobcat, Sebastian Mueller singled him home for Quinnipiac's first run of the season.

A ground-rule double for Georgia in the bottom of the third inning stretched their lead back to five. Georgia would go on to score three more runs to defeat the Bobcats 9-1 in the season opener.

GAME TWO
After a scoreless first inning, the UNC Wilmington Seahawks exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to put themselves on top.

The Bobcats would get a run back in the fourth inning as Sebastian Mueller launched his first home run of the season.

UNC Wilmington would strike again in the bottom of the sixth inning as three runs crossed the plate. The Seahawks would push four more runs across in the eighth inning to defeat the Bobcats 12-1 in eight innings.

NEWS AND NOTES

Four different Bobcats recorded hits in game one against Georgia and two Bobcats recorded hits in the loss against UNC Wilmington.
Sebastian Mueller led the Bobcats offense in game one, going 1-for-3 at the dish and driving in the only run for QU.
Johnny Knox recorded his first hit as a Bobcat with a triple.
CJ Willis and Cole Constable each recorded a base hit in the loss to Georgia.
Josh Lajoie got the start for QU and went 2.1 innings with one strikeout and six earned runs while only allowing two hits.
Sebastian Mueller picked up in game two and launched a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Alex Irizarry and Gabe Wright each picked up a hit in the loss.
Nick Balcom started game two for the Bobcats and went 5.0 innings, striking out four and allowing just two earned runs.

ON DECK

The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow with another double-header against Georgia and UNC Wilmington. The Bobcats will face the Bulldogs at 10 AM and then face the Seahawks 45 minutes after the conclusion of the UNC Wilmington/Georgia contest.
