HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats got the scoring started early and often in the midweek contest at UMass. With the bases loaded and no outs in the opening frame, Jack Balcer singled up the middle, scoring both Caden Williamson and Kyle Garbowski to get QU going. Alex Irizarry extended the lead with a double to deep center field, scoring Christian Smith from second. With Jack Balcer on third, Peyton Vancas flew out to left, allowing Balcer to come home with Quinnipiac's fourth run of the inning.
Quinnipiac added more runs to its lead in the third inning, making it an eight-run lead. James Marino got the scoring started in the third, singling home Smith and Balcer to make it a 6-0 lead for Quinnipiac. Vancas delivered with his second RBI of the game as he singled home Irizarry from third. Another sacrifice fly brought home Quinnipiac's fourth run of the inning, as Marino scored on a Brayden Hromada fly out.
Jack Balcer got the scoring started again in the fourth inning, scoring two more runs on a single up the middle. With the Bobcats leading 10-0, James Marino made it an eleven-run game with another sacrifice fly.
The game remained 11-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, where UMass got a run back on a solo home run to deep right field.
Quinnipiac had the immediate response, striking for three runs in the seventh to push their lead up to 12. James Marino got the scoring started in the seventh, blasting a solo home run over the center-field wall. Later in the inning, Kyle Garbowski drew a bases-loaded walk to force home another run for the Bobcats. With one out in the inning, Christian Smith reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Luke Zeisloft to score the 13th run of the game for Quinnipiac. UMass scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning, making it a 14-5 ballgame.
Christian Smith wasn't done scoring just yet as he continued his hot streak with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning. Brayden Hromada made it a 17-5 game with a two-run single through the left side of the infield in the final inning. UMass brought in a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Quinnipiac closed out the 17-6 win in the midweek contest against UMass.
