Bobcats Take Down Pioneers to Close Out Weekend

Hamden, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team took down the Sacred Heart Pioneers in four sets as their win streak stretched six on Saturday night in Hamden.
Quinnipiac opened the match on a 5-0 scoring run, forcing the Pioneers to call an early timeout to settle their side down. Out of the break, the Bobcats continued to dominate the set as they held a 16-7 lead before Sacred Heart used their final timeout. The Bobcats continued to keep their distance from the Pioneers as they won the opening frame 25-16.
The Pioneers held a slight advantage halfway through the second set, 13-12, as they called their first timeout of the set. Sacred Heart went up 18-15 before Quinnipiac called a timeout of their own. The Bobcats went on a 4-2 run out of their own timeout to take the lead and force Sacred Heart to call another timeout. Quinnipiac would score six of the next seven points to close out the second set, 25-21.
Sacred Heart led halfway through the set, 16-13, for the second straight set and called the first timeout of the set. Out of their timeout, Sacred Heart went on a 9-7 scoring run to finish off the set and push the match to a fourth set.
The Bobcats started on a 6-1 scoring run before the Pioneers used a timeout to calm the set down. However, Quinnipiac kept the pressure on the Pioneers, going on an 8-4 run to take a 14-5 lead as SHU used their final timeout of the set. An 11-7 scoring run from the Bobcats closed out the set and the match, and QU won their sixth straight match.

- Yagmur Gunes led the way for the Bobcats as she recorded 20 kills in the win. Gunes has reached double-digit kills for the 17th time this season.
- Vittoria Tonelli was second on the team with 14 kills in the win, which is a new career high.
- Elena Giacomini had a solid day for the Bobcats as she recorded 12 kills and 11 digs in the match against SHU.
- Giacomini reached double-digit kills for the 22nd time this season, which is all but one match.
- Giacomini also recorded her 15th double-double of the season in the win.
- Damla Gunes led the Bobcats with 38 assists, while four other Bobcats recorded at least one assist.
- Carola Negron Diaz led the Bobcats with 13 digs.
- Seven different Bobcats recorded a kill, and seven different Bobcats recorded at least one dig in the four-set win over the Pioneers.
- Elena Giacomini recorded three service aces, the most on the team.
- Milena Silva and Asia Belli led the Bobcats with 2.5 total blocks each.
- The Bobcats stretched their win streak to six straight matches.
- With the win, the Bobcats improve to 9-2 in conference play and 12-11 overall.
