EASTON, PA – Quinnipiac women's volleyball fell in a pair of matches against Lafayette and Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center.

The Bobcats first dropped a contest, 3-0, against the Leopards to begin the day, then QU fell against Rhode Island, 3-1, on Sunday evening.

NOTES

Sophia Gisslen finished with 52 assists over the two contests, including 34 against Lafayette to begin the day. She posted 18 assists and 12 digs in the final game of the day vs. URI.
Giulia Ragusa led the Bobcats with 22 kills over two contests. She registered 12 kills vs. Lafayette, then 10 against Rhode Island.
Sophia Minlend added 19 kills on the day (12 vs. Rhode Island).
Carola Negron Diaz registered 27 digs over the two matchups. She also had 10 assists in the final game of the tournament vs. URI.
Azra Ozbiltekin & Sophia Minlend led the Bobcats with 12 kills each in the contest vs. URI.

GAME REWIND (Lafayette 3, Quinnipiac 0)

Set 1 (Lafayette 25, Quinnipiac 16): Lafayette opened the match on a 5–0 run behind the serve of Justine Puig, including an early kill and block by Grace Jamison. Quinnipiac committed 9 attack errors in the set, hitting .000 as a team. Lafayette used 4 team blocks and a balanced offense—led by Jamison's 4 kills—to build a 21–11 advantage before closing out the frame 25–16.
Set 2 (Lafayette 25, Quinnipiac 23): Quinnipiac pushed back early, building a 7–2 lead behind kills from Giulia Ragusa and Sahra Ozbiltekin. The set featured 6 tie scores and 2 lead changes as Quinnipiac elevated its team hitting percentage to .178 with 14 kills. Lafayette leveled the score at 19–19 after a Johanna Groger kill. Tied at 23–23, Lafayette earned set point on a Quinnipiac service error before completing a 25–23 victory via a block by Auma Mbeche-Odhiambo and Noa Kamphuis.
Set 3 (Lafayette 25, Quinnipiac 18): Lafayette posted its strongest offensive set of the match, hitting .353 with 14 kills and only 2 errors. Auma Mbeche-Odhiambo paced the attack with 5 kills in the frame. Up 12–8, Lafayette went on a 5–0 run boosted by a service ace from Alyssa Chu and consecutive Quinnipiac ball-handling errors to extend the lead to 19–9. Quinnipiac saved two match points late before Mbeche-Odhiambo ended the match with a final kill.

GAME REWIND (Rhode Island 3, Quinnipiac 1)

Set 1 (Quinnipiac 25, Rhode Island 22): Quinnipiac opened the match with early defensive energy, building a quick lead using block assists from Sila Yildiz, Sophia Minlend, and Giulia Ragusa. Despite a timeout from Rhode Island, Quinnipiac surged ahead behind a strong serving run by Ragusa, who delivered three consecutive service aces to extend the lead to 18-15 and force another Rams timeout. Rhode Island mounted a late rally behind back-to-back service aces from Ema Stermenska and attack finishes by Cara Richter to pull within one at 22-21. However, Quinnipiac held off the comeback with late kills from Yildiz and Minlend, closing out the set 25-22 on an Asia Belli kill.
Set 2 (Rhode Island 25, Quinnipiac 17): Rhode Island responded with high offensive efficiency, hitting .385 as a team in the second frame. Early kills from Richter and KJ Johnson along with serving pressure by Johnson and Stermenska allowed URI to stretch its advantage to 10-5. Quinnipiac attempted to stay close through Azra Ozbiltekin and Sahra Ozbiltekin, but Rhode Island's defense made the difference with key blocks from McKenna Melton and Chloe Abuto. Rhode Island closed out the set 25-17 on a block by Johnson and Erika Bracey to even the match 1-1.
Set 3 (Rhode Island 25, Quinnipiac 23): The third set featured heavy back-and-forth action with 12 tie scores and 6 lead changes. Quinnipiac took control midway through the set behind consecutive aces and strong net play from Belli and Sahra Ozbiltekin, pushing Quinnipiac ahead 22-19. Following a URI timeout, Rhode Island staged a 5-0 run fueled by crucial blocks from Richter, Abuto, and Bracey. Down 23-22, Bracey delivered back-to-back kills from Jahan Lalli sets to complete the comeback and secure the 25-23 win for the Rams.
Set 4 (Rhode Island 25, Quinnipiac 17): Rhode Island dominated the final frame, operating at a .400 attack percentage with 13 kills on 25 attempts and just 3 errors. After a tight 8-8 start, Dakota Henry sparked a run with a service ace to push URI ahead 13-9. Johnson, Richter, and Emily Sawyer took over at the net, capitalizing on multiple Quinnipiac attack errors. Rhode Island sealed the set 25-17 and clinched the 3-1 match victory with an ace from Stermenska.

NEXT UP
The Bobcats will head to the Dartmouth Invitational next from Sept. 18-20. QU will face Boston College, Dartmouth, and Binghamton in the tournament.
