HAMDEN, Conn.– The Quinnipiac Softball team returns home to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers with a double-header on Wednesday, April 17th at the Quinnipiac Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM and can be seen on GoBobcats.com.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
- Sacred Heart is 17-22 overall and 9-5 in NEC play.
- Carly Koltko leads the Pioneers with a .330 batting average in 38 games played with 37 starts.
- Cierra Bender leads the team with 24 runs batted in.
- Emily Heath has made 19 starts for the Pioneers with a record of 7-10 and boasts an ERA of2.80. Heath has recorded 67 strikeouts on 107.1 innings pitched.
- QU is 26-16 all-time against the Pioneers dating back to April 18, 2001. The Bobcats defeated the Pioneers 4-1 in their last matchup (Feb. 23, 2022).
- Natalia Apatiga was named MAAC Player of the Week on April 16th after helping lead the Bobcats to five wins this past week.
- Apatiga had a fantastic week for the Bobcats as she had a batting average of .480 (12-for-25) and drove in six RBIs and one home run.
- Apatiga finished the week with a .500 on-base percentage and a .640 slugging percentage.
- The Bobcats earned the series win over the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, two games to one.
- Quinnipiac won the opening game of the series, 2-1 as Brooke Hilliard and Hanna Davis each drove in a run. Sydney Horan picked up her fifth win after going seven innings with five strikeouts.
- After dropping the middle game of the series, 5-2, the Bobcats offense exploded for 14 runs in game three. Hannah Davis recorded five RBIs and hit two home runs to help lead the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats earned the series sweep of the Saint Peter's Peacocks in the three-game series this past week.
- Quinnipiac won the longest game in program history in game one of the double-header on Tuesday, defeating the Peacocks 7-5 in 13 innings.
- The Bobcats offense exploded for 11 runs in game two as nine different Bobcats recorded at least one hit in the game.
- In the final game of the series, the Bobcats defeated the Peacocks, 7-1, as Jaclyn Gonzalez picked up her seventh win on the season.
- The Bobcats went 1-2 in their home opening series against Iona on this past weekend.
- Iona took both games of the doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 by scores of 7-1 and 7-6.
- QU bounced back with a close 2-1 win on Sunday, April 7.
- Amanda Engel knocked in the Bobcats' second run of the game on an RBI triple to right field in the fourth inning.
- Sydney Horan pitched a complete game in game three, holding Iona to only six hits with four strikeouts and one earned run.
- Last Saturday, March 30, the Bobcats fell in both games of the doubleheader at FDU.
- Julia Woeste had the Bobcats lone run in the 3-1 game one loss with a solo homer.
- In game two, Karolyn Walker had the other Bobcats run in a 4-1 loss.
- Ally Hochstadter had two hits and two stolen bases in game two.
- The Bobcats fell to Marist in all three games of their opening MAAC series in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. last weekend.
- Abby LaClair had an RBI in game one of the series.
- Jaclyn Gonzalez was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday, March 19 after going 2-0 in three appearances the work before.
- She notched a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings of work while striking out six batters.
- QU fell at Boston College 5-0 on Sunday, March 17.
- Mary Fogg, Kennedy Demott, and Amanda Engel each had a hit for the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats went 4-3 in seven games in Virginia.
- They beat Le Moyne College, Hampton University, and Norfolk State University twice.
- Jaclyn Gonzalez got the win in all four games for QU.
- The Bobcats scored 13 runs on against Norfolk State on March 11, the most runs they've scored in a game since 2015.
- QU went 4-1 at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, FL., with wins over Monmouth, Albany, Southern Indiana, and Western Michigan.
- Sydney Horan led the Bobcats in the circle with two wins, including a complete game shutout of Western Michigan on Sunday, March 3. She also struck out 24 batters over 24 innings pitched.
- Kennedy Demott went 4-11 with three RBIs and two doubles, making the start at catcher in all five games.
- The Bobcats started off the season hot, defeating UMass-Lowell 10-4 on Saturday, Feb. 10.
- Mary Fogg tallied two RBIs and scored two runs on three hits to lead QU.
- Lauren Hilliard picked up her first win in the circle, pitching three innings, striking out three while only giving up one run.
- Natalia Apatiga also had two RBIs and scored one run on two hits.
- In the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 10, the Bobcats fell to Texas A&M Commerce 3-2.
- Natalia Apatiga continued her hot start, driving in a run on two hits, and she also scored a run.
- Abby LaClair recorded her first career RBI.
- Mary Fogg scored one run on one hit.
- QU welcomes eight newcomers to the 2024 squad.
- The First Years are, Lauren Hilliard, Ashley Garcia, Riley Potter, Jaelyn Gonzalez, Sydney Rosenkranz, and Abby LaClair.
- The Bobcats also have two transfers, Noelle Reid who is coming from Miami University of Ohio, and Ella McGalliard who had played at Winthrop University.
- Lauren Hilliard is the sister of Junior Brooke Hilliard on the QU team.
- The Bobcats return 15 players from the 2023 team.
- Graduate student Hannah Davis and Senior Julia Woeste were named the 2024 Captains for QU.
- 2023 All-MAAC First Team and Rookie Team selection Mary Fogg will also be returning in the outfield for the Bobcats.
- After a stellar rookie season, Mary Fogg has been named to repeat on the All-MAAC First Team in 2024.
- A season ago, she led the Bobcats in batting average (.381), OPS (.830), hits (51), total bases (55), and stolen bases (9).
- QU has been picked ninth in the 2024 MAAC Coaches' Poll.
- Head Coach Hillary Smith enters her sixth season with the Bobcats after being named the eighth coach in program history.
- Coach Smith has brought in eight new faces to the program and welcomed back one graduate student for fifth year.
- Assistant coach Mandie Perez enters her third season with the Bobcats.
- Perez helped Smith see the Bobcats earn one All-MAAC honor in the 2023 season.
