
Bobcats Start Home Slate Sunday Against LIU

HAMDEN, Conn. – After a good start to the 2024 campaign, the Quinnipiac University acrobatics & tumbling program is back on its home floor as they take on LIU at M&T Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats earned a 262.580-220.770 victory over Morgan State on Feb. 10 to open their campaign and are looking to make it two in a row against another NCATA newcomer.

BOBCATS SELECTED AS PRESEASON NO. 3
- The Bobcats earned the No. 3 national ranking as voted on by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association coaches on Feb. 1, receiving three first-place votes and finishing eight points behind last year's national runners-up in Oregon.
- Both teams were selected behind Baylor, as the defending national champs garnered 36 of an available 42 first-place votes.
- Quinnipiac will face four teams inside the preseason national rankings, including a pair of top five matchups at No. 2 Oregon and No. 5 Azusa Pacific.
- The Bobcats have a six-meet regular season that began on Feb. 10 against Morgan State, a meet they won after posting a final score of 262.580.
- Quinnipiac hosts LIU on Feb. 25 before heading out west for meets at Azusa Pacific (March 13) and Oregon (March 16).
- Back to back home meets will close out the 2024 regular season, hosting Iona (March 23) and Gannon (April 6) before heading to the NCATA National Championships on April 25.
- The Bobcats posted a 5-1 overall record in 2023, earning the No. 4 seed in the postseason tournament.
- They went on to the national semifinals, falling to top-seeded Baylor. On Sunday, the team claimed four NCATA Individual Event Finals titles in the inversion pyramid, duo tumbling, quad tumbling and aerial tumbling events.
- Quinnipiac defeated Kutztown University, Augustana University, Presbyterian College, Frostburg State University and Caldwell University during the regular season.
- The Bobcats have advanced to the championship round of the NCATA postseason tournament twice (2013, 2018).
- Mary Ann Powers enters her 27th season as head coach for Quinnipiac Acrobatics & Tumbling in 2024. Powers has coached at several levels including Pop-Warner, All-Star level 6 squads and at the university level.
- Her greatest career achievement lies in her success with Quinnipiac University, where the team has remained a top-ten nationally ranked team since 2005. Their personal-best finish was fifth place in All-Girl Division I in 2007. In 2009, Powers became one of the founding coaches of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). In 2020, Powers' hard work along with her fellow co-founders reached new heights as the sport was adopted as an emerging sport for women by the NCAA.
- Quinnipiac has been competitive nationally in every season since the NCATA's creation. Over the last seven seasons, the Bobcats have been ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation. Powers has led the Bobcats to the NCATA semifinals in nine of the last 12 seasons and has made to two NCATA Championship meet appearances, most recently in the 2018 season.
- Powers was recognized by the NCATA in 2016 as the Coach of the Year and was named the ECAC Coach of the Year in three straight seasons from 2017-19.
