Bobcats Extend MAAC Unbeaten Streak to Five Games With Victory at Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball extended its win streak to five consecutive games after downing conference foe Iona in four sets inside of the Hynes Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
Ginevra Giovagnoni led the Bobcats with 24 kills and 13 digs for a double-double, while Alexandra Tennon added 14 kills and 16 digs for a double-double as well. Damla Gunes contributed 49 assists and nine digs in the victory.
With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 9-5 overall on the season and 5-0 in MAAC play, while Iona fell to 7-9 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.

SET ONE (25-23, Quinnipiac)
The two sides traded points to a 14-14 tie before the Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to take a 17-14 lead, forcing an Iona timeout. Out of the break, the Gaels went on a 5-2 run to knot the set at 19-19 before Quinnipiac burned its first timeout of the set.
Out of the timeout, the Bobcats went on a 4-0 run led by three kills from Ginevra Giovagnoni to take a 23-19 lead and force the Gaels to use its final timeout of the set. Iona battled back with a 4-1 run to force a QU timeout leading 24-23. Giovagnoni secured the set for the Bobcats with a kill immediately out of the break to give QU a 1-0 lead in the match.
SET TWO (25-14)
Holding an 11-9 lead, the Bobcats went on a 4-1 run, capped by a kill from Alexandra Tennon to force an Iona timeout leading 15-10. Iona cut the QU lead to 15-13 out of the break before the Bobcats responded with a 4-0 run of their own to extend the lead to 19-13, forcing Iona to burn its final timeout of the set.
THe Bobcats never looked back in the set, cruising to a 25-14 set victory.
SET THREE (23-25)
The two sides exchanged points to a 7-7 tie before the Gaels slowly crept ahead to 11-7, forcing a QU timeout. Out of the break the Bobcats went on a 9-5 run to knot the score at 16-16 in the set. The two slides traded points to a 21-21 tie before Iona eventually took the set 25-23.
SET FOUR (32-30)
The two sides remained relatively even through the set to a 25-25 score. After Iona took a 26-25 lead, the Bobcats responded with back-to-back kills from Giovagnoni to take a 27-26 lead, forcing an Iona timeout. Out of the timeout, Iona took a 28-27 lead before the two sides traded points to a 30-30 tie. However, a kill from Giovagnoni and an Iona attack error sealed the four-set victory for the Bobcats.
NOTES:
The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday, October 1, when the Bobcats travel to take on MAAC foe Manhattan at 3 p.m.
