Bobcats Complete N.Y. Weekend Sweep With Victory Over Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball earned its sixth consecutive victory to open MAAC play after downing conference foe Manhattan in five sets inside of the Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. With the 6-0 start, the Bobcats are tied for the best start in conference play in program history.
Ginevra Giovagnoni led the Bobcats with 17 kills and 11 digs for a double-double, while Yagmur Gunes added 14 kills and six digs. Damla Gunes tallied 47 assists and seven digs in the victory.
With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 9-5 overall on the season and 6-0 in MAAC play, while Manhattan fell to 2-13 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

SET ONE (26-24, Manhattan)
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 12-6 lead before Manhattan fought back to tie the set at 17-17. The two sides proceeded to trade points to a 24-24 tie before a Manhattan kill and a QU attack error sealed a first-set Jaspers victory.
SET TWO (17-25)
The two sides were relatively even to begin the set before Quinnipiac crept ahead, 15-10. Quinnipiac was able to extend that lead to 21-15 before cruising to the 25-17 set win.
SET THREE (25-18)
The Jaspers held an early 8-5 lead and never looked back in the set, building their lead to as much as 16-8 before eventually taking the set 25-18.
SET FOUR (17-25)
The Bobcats dominated in the set, taking a 13-7 lead before extending it to 20-14 in the set. The Jaspers were never able to recover, as QU forced a fifth-set
SET FIVE (8-15)
The two sides were even until 5-5 before the Bobcats took the lead and never looked back. Yagmur Gunes delivered on a kill and it sparked a QU run that put it ahead 13-8. Manhattan never recovered, recording two attack errors to close the match.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, October 6, when the Bobcats travel to take on in-state MAAC rival Fairfield at 7 p.m.
