Bobcats Complete Weekend MAAC Sweep With 3-0 Victory Over Canisius

QU off to best MAAC start since 2016 with weekend sweep
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball opened the MAAC portion of its schedule at 2-0 after downing Canisius in straight sets inside of Burt Kahn Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Leilani-kai Giusta led the Bobcats with 10 kills and added four digs and two blocks, while Yagmur Gunes contributed nine kills, seven digs and five service aces. Damla Gunes led the match with 28 assists and tallied seven digs.
With the win, Quinnipiac improved to 6-5 overall on the season and 2-0 in MAAC play, while Canisius fell to 2-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

SET ONE (25-17, QU)
Quinnipiac got off to a blistering start, jumping out to a 6-2 lead to force a Canisius timeout. Out of the break, the points kept coming for QU, as it increased its lead to 10-3 in the set. Canisius battled back, slowly cutting Quinnipiac's lead to 15-10 in the set before a kill from Yagmur Gunes and a Canisius attack error pushed Quinnipiac's lead to seven, forcing a timeout.
The Bobcats never lost momentum in the set, cruising to the 25-17 set victory.
SET TWO (25-18)
The two sides traded points to a 9-9 tie before QU went on a 4-1 run to take a 13-10 lead, forcing a Canisius timeout. Out of the break, the Bobcats extended the lead to 17-13, forcing Canisius to burn its final timeout of the set.
Out of the timeout, Canisius cut the Quinnipiac lead to 18-16 before the Bobcats slowly extended the lead to 23-16 behind three straight service aces from Yagmur Gunes. The deficit proved to be too great for the Golden Griffins, as QU took the set 25-18.
SET THREE (25-18)
The Bobcats stayed hot in the third set, opening the frame with a 13-4 run forcing Canisius to burn both timeouts in the set. Canisius cut it to as close as 16-9 in the set, but the deficit proved to be too great as the Bobcats rolled to a 25-18 set victory and a 3-0 match victory.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23, when the Bobcats travel to take on MAAC foe Marist at 1 p.m.
