HAMDEN, Conn. – Jared Zimbardo led the offense with three RBIs, as the Quinnipiac baseball team picked up a victory over non-conference foe UMass, 10-7, Wednesday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 18-23 overall on the season, while the Minutemen fell to 10-27 on the 2023 campaign with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first for a run in the first as Jared Zimbardo led off the frame with a solo homer to put Quinnipiac up 1-0. However, UMass responded with two runs of their own in the second to jump ahead 2-1.

Trailing 4-2 in the fourth, Zimbardo worked a bases-loaded walk to trim the deficit to 4-3. However, UMass responded with two runs the following frame to extend the lead to 6-3.

After cutting the deficit to 6-4, Quinnipiac pulled within one run, as Anthony Donofrio blasted a solo homer to right in the sixth to bring the score to 6-5. The following inning, Jared Zimbardo came through with an RBI single up the middle to knot the contest at 6-6 in the seventh. However, the Minutemen retook the lead in the eighth to push ahead 7-6.

With the bases loaded in the eighth, a UMass error in the field allowed a run to score, tying the game at 7-7. Later in the inning, John Heitzman tallied an RBIon a fielder's choice and an error in the field allowed a second run to score on the play, giving QU a 9-7 lead. Christian Smith immediately followed win an RBI knock of his own to extend the lead to 10-7.

The lead proved to be too much for UMass as the Bobcats held on for the three-run victory.
