Bobcats Open MAAC Tournament Against Niagara on Wednesday

POMONA, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac baseball team is set to begin play at the 2023 MAAC Baseball Tournament this weekend as the No. 4 seed after closing the regular season with a nine-game win streak.
Looking at the Field
Quinnipiac will open the first round of the tournament against No. 5 Niagara at 3 p.m. The Bobcats went 1-2 against the Purple Eagles this season, falling in two games 5-4 and 4-3 but winning the middle game between the two teams, 16-10. Quinnipiac finished the season 3-7 against all MAAC Tournament opponents as the Bobcats were 0-1 against Fairfield, and 1-2 against both Canisius and Rider. The Bobcats never played Manhattan during the 2023 season.
History vs. Niagara
The Bobcats own an 11-14 record against Niagara in 25 all-time meetings. Quinnipiac went 1-2 against Niagara this season with their matchup coming in Buffalo. The Bobcats are 1-5 in the past two seasons against the Purple Eagles.
History vs. Fairfield
Quinnipiac is 10-24 against Fairfield since 2008. The Stags downed the Bobcats, 13-3, in the two sides' only matchup this season.
History vs. Canisius
The Bobcats are 10-19 all-time against the Golden Griffins in 29 meetings. The Bobcats downed the Golden Griffins, 10-8, in their last matchup on April 23, 2023, where Keegan O'Connor and Sean Swenson combined to drive in seven runs in the victory. Quinnipiac is 1-3 all-time against Canisius in the postseason.
History vs. Manhattan
Quinnipiac owns a 15-5 record against Manhattan all-time despite not facing them this season. The Bobcats have won all six series since joining the MAAC, and are 15-5 in those six series. Quinnipiac is 9-2 in its last 11 games against Manhattan.

The Bobcats are 9-13 in 22 all-time meetings with the Broncs, dating back to the first meeting in 2022. Quinnipiac went 1-2 against Rider this season, picking up a 12-2 win in its last time out against the Brons on March 26, 2023. Anthony Donofrio and Keegan O'Connor led the offense with three RBIs apiece in the win.

Quinnipiac closed the regular season with a nine-game win streak, its longest since the 2019 season when the team won eight consecutive games. What an Honor
John Delaney was named the MAAC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career on Tuesday after helping the Bobcats far exceed their preseason expectations. After being picked seventh out of 11 teams in the preseason poll, Delaney led Quinnipiac to 16 MAAC wins and a fourth-place finish in the regular season, while producing five All-MAAC caliber players, including three on the First Team.
All-League Players
The Bobcats placed three players on the All-MAAC First Team as Keegan O'Connor, Anthony Donofrio, and Kevin Seitter were all recognized. Kyle Maves' accolades continued as he was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, while Matt Alduino earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors. Quinnipiac also added eight players to the All-Academic Team.
SPEED KILLS
The Bobcats boast 111 steals on the season, setting a program record for most steals in a single season in program history. The 111 steals on the season ranks second in the MAAC and 20th in the nation.
Anthony Donofrio leads the conference in stolen bases with 29 while ranking 25th in the nation in the category. Donofrio's 29 steals on the season stands as the most in a single season in program history. Trailing right behind him in the category is Kyle Maves with 26 stolen bases, ranking second in the MAAC and 36th in the country.
BOBCAT POWER
Quinnipiac boasts a program-record 73 homers on the season, which stands as the third in the MAAC and 83rd in the nation. The Bobcats have five players that boast nine or more home runs on the season, including four who carry 12 or more into the MAAC Tournament.
HIT PARADE IN HAMDEN
Quinnipiac's offense has carried the team this year, as the Bobcats rank within the top three in the MAAC in 10 offensive categories. Boasting a team batting average of .308, QU sits at second in the MAAC in the category. Quinnipiac ranks second in the MAAC in runs (424), hits (569), doubles (109), triples (18), RBIs (381), total bases (933), slugging (.505), and stolen bases (111).
STRUT ON
Quinnipiac's offense exploded for 51 runs scored over a three-game stretch in its weekend sweep of Saint Peter's from May 11-13. The Bobcats opened the weekend with a 27-0 victory over the Peacocks, marking the largest margin of victory in a single game in program history. The 27-run win tied for the largest margin of victory by an NCAA Division I team against a league opponent this season. Of the 51 runs scored during the series, 33 runs were scored in the seventh and eighth innings.
ENTER THE BASHMAN
Enjoying a breakout campaign, Sebastian Mueller boasts a .319 batting average with 67 hits on the season. Mueller is tied for the team lead with 16 homers and carries 10 doubles and 49 RBIs into the tournament.
CALL ME MAVES
Kyle Maves returned to Quinnipiac as a grad student for his fifth season in Hamden. His last season proved to be his best, as he earned All-MAAC honors for the first time in his career after garnering Second Team honors. Maves led the MAAC with 79 hits and batted .366 on the season while adding four triples, 12 doubles, and 27 RBIs, all career-best marks for the graduate student.
Maves has recorded 73 stolen bases for his career, as he will graduate as the all-time leader in program history in the category. Of his 73 career steals, 26 have come this season, which is the second most steals in a single season in program history.
O' WHAT A YEAR
Junior Keegan O'Connor enjoyed a breakout 2023 campaign. O'Connor earned All-MAAC First Team honors after setting career-best numbers in batting average (.346), hits (74), doubles (15), homers (12), and RBIs (55).
Earning MAAC Player of the Week honors earlier in the season, O'Connor homered in five consecutive games from May 5 - 11. A stalwart behind the plate as well, he threw out 13 attempted base stealers this season.
SAINT ANTHONY DONOFRIO
Earning All-MAAC honors for the second season in a row, Donofrio garnered First Team decoration on Tuesday as he ranked within the top five in the conference in nearly every offensive category.
Donofrio is batting .371 on the season, ranking fifth in the MAAC, while his 79 hits are tops in the conference. He ranks second in the conference in doubles (17), fifth in triples (4), third in homers (16), second in RBIs (61), second in total bases (152), third in slugging (.714), and first in stolen bases (29).
SIT EM SEITTER
Kevin Seitter is enjoying his best season as a senior as he was named to the All-MAAC First Team on Tuesday. Seitter leads the team in wins (7), complete games (2), ERA (3.78), innings pitched (81.0), and strikeouts (70).
Seitter's numbers placed him among the best in the conference as he ranked second in the MAAC in ERA, third in wins, first in complete games, fifth in innings pitched, and sixth in strikeouts.
