
Bobcats Ink Springs, Young Ahead of 2023-24 Season

Hamden, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's basketball has added forward Richie Springs and guard Doug Young ahead of 2023-24, as announced by Head Coach Tom Pecora and the Bobcats on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
Both Springs and Young will transfer in to Quinnipiac, and both are immediately eligible for the upcoming season. Springs – a graduate student – will have two years of eligibility remaining. Young will join the Bobcats as a junior, and will also have two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

Richie Springs | Forward | Brooklyn, New York
Springs will join the Bobcats after spending four seasons at UConn (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23). The Brooklyn, New York-native played in 19 games for the Huskies – who won the national championship – this past season.
The 6-foot-9, 245-pound forward played in 32 games during his time at UConn, scoring 30 points to along with 36 rebounds.
"We're excited to announce the addition of Richie Springs to our program," Head Coach Tom Pecora said. "Richie will bring championship pedigree to our team and will make an immediate impact upon his arrival in Hamden. He enjoyed great success during his high school career at both The MacDuffie School (Granby, Mass.) and Bishop Loughlin Memorial (Brooklyn, N.Y.). We can't wait to get Richie to campus as we continue to prepare for the upcoming 2023-24 season."
Springs was expected to attend Brewster Academy for a postgraduate year in 2019-20, but reclassified and verbally committed to UConn in August of 2019.
He played under coach Jacque Rivera at The MacDuffie School (Granby, Mass.). He also enjoyed two years at Bishop Loughlin Memorial (Brooklyn, N.Y.) under Coach Ed Gonzalez. Springs played on the AAU circuit for the PSA Cardinals under Munch Williams – averaging 10.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in 18 contests.
Doug Young | Guard | Houston, Texas
Combo guard Doug Young will join Quinnipiac as a junior in 2023-24 after most recently playing at Midland College (Midland, Texas) in 2022-23, where he was both an All-Conference and All-Region selection.
He averaged 20.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest at Midland College over 35 games.
"We're thrilled to welcome Doug Young to the Quinnipiac Basketball family," Head Coach Tom Pecora said. "He enjoyed a fantastic 2022-23 season at Midland College in Texas, helping the program make the JUCO national tournament (NJCAA D1 Championship). Doug will have a positive impact on our group as we continue to compete for a MAAC championship."
He enjoyed a breakout season at Midland College this past season, recording double-digit point totals in 33 of 35 games. Young scored 20+ points on 22 separate occasions, including a season-high 32 points on Feb. 13 at Clarendon College.
