Softball Drops First Matchup Against the Mountaineers

HAMDEN, Conn.—The Quinnipiac softball team lost to Mount St. Mary's in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday, April 8 at QU Softball Field. The Bobcats bounced back in game two and shutout the Mountaineers by a score of 5-0.

Game one
Second inning-
- The Mountaineers took a one run lead in the second inning. Tori Bowles double to center was followed by Martin's single to center RBI to bring Bowles in to score.
Third inning-
- The Mount started the third inning off with a single from Abigayle Perry and a triple from the Mount's Maggie Kane brought Perry in to score.
- A sacrifice flyout from Gartrell put the Mountaineers up by three as Kane scored.
Fourth Inning-
- Adding another run to their lead, the Mount's Kane score unearned on an error at short.
Seventh Inning-
- The Mountaineers secured their victory in the top of the seventh when Vanessa Martin hit a two run homer, giving the Mount a final score of 6-0.
First Inning-
- The Bobcats took an early lead in the first, as Mary Fogg scored from third on a single by Apatiga to center.
Third Inning-
- Hilliard scored on a sacrifice groundout from Hannah Davis, which was immediately followed by Mac Davis, who pinch ran for Pascual, after Apatiga singled to left field. Putting the Bobcats up by three.
Fourth Inning-
- QU added two more runs in the fourth, as Vega scored on a sacrifice flyout to center field to advance M. Fogg into scoring position.
- M. Fogg scored on the next at bat as H. Davis doubled to left field.
NOTES
Game two-
- Hannah Davis had two RBIs, one hit and one double through two at bats.
- Natalia Apatiga had two hits and two RBIs through three at bats.
- Lala Pascual had one hit, one double, and one RBI through two at bats.
- Serena Fogg also tallied a double in the shutout victory.
- Jackie Gonzalez pitched 7.0 innings, striking out six and posting a 0.0 ERA.
