HAMDEN, Conn. – The Bobcats were able to overcome an early three-run deficit, as the Quinnipiac baseball team downed crosstown rivals Yale, 11-4, Wednesday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 14-19 overall on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 13-16 on the 2023 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After four scoreless innings, Yale scored first with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead. However, the Bobcats responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Jared Zimbardo sparked the rally with a solo homer to put Quinnipiac on the board, followed by an RBI double from Kyle Maves later in the inning to trim the deficit to 3-2. A few batters later, Keegan O'Connor notched a two-run single to give Quinnipiac a 4-3 lead, one it would not relinquish. John Heitzman capped the rally with an RBI single of his own to push the lead to 5-3.

After Yale scored a run in the eighth to make it a one-score game, the Bobcats countered with six runs of their own to put the game out of reach. Heitzman recorded his second RBI of the game off a sacrifice fly to make it a two-run game before Matt Tesoriero lined an RBI double to right to extend the lead to 7-4.

Leading 9-4 in the inning, Sebastian Mueller put the final touches on the contest with a two-run homer to secure the 11-4 victory for Quinnipiac.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, April 21, when QU travels to take on Canisius to open a three-game set on the road
