HAMDEN, Conn. – Seven different players tallied a run scored, as the Quinnipiac baseball team dominated Iona in the weekend finale, 16-1, Sunday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 13-19 overall on the season and 7-6 in the MAAC, while the Gaels fell to 7-25 on the 2023 campaign and 3-6 in the MAAC with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Bobcats responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. After Jared Zimbardo walked and stole second base, Sebastian Mueller lined an RBI single to left to plate Zimbardo to knot the contest at 1-1. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, McGwire Tuffy came through with a sacrifice fly to right to give Quinnipiac an early 2-1 advantage in the contest.

Quinnipiac added to its lead in the fourth, starting with Zimbardo drawing a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-1. Anthony Donofrio immediately followed with a two-run single, pushing the Bobcat lead to 5-1. Later in the inning, an error in the field allowed two more runs to score to give Quinnipiac a 7-1 advantage.

The following inning, Sean Swenson launched a solo shot to left-center, extending the lead to 8-1. Later in the inning with runners on second and third, Matt Tesoriero came through with an RBI single to extend the lead to 9-1. A few batters later, Anthony Donofrio lined a two-run double to the fence to give Quinnipiac the 10-run advantage.

The deficit proved to be too much for the Gaels, as the Bobcats held on for the 16-1 victory.
