Bobcats Roar Past Canisius to Earn Crucial Senior Day Victory

HAMDEN, Conn. — In the heat of a playoff race, one of the Bobcats' stars took control.
Senior attacker Desiree Kleberg, on her Senior Day, scored three of Quinnipiac's last four goals, including the overtime, game-winner, to erase a three-goal deficit and give her squad a 9-8 victory over Canisius on Saturday afternoon at the QU Lacrosse Stadium.
The Huntington Station, N.Y., native recorded four on the day, as Quinnipiac held Canisius scoreless for the final 8:03 of regulation and all 3:33 of the extra session to allow for their second comeback victory in as many Saturday's in Hamden.
The visitors jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first 18:23 of game action but would only score thrice the rest of the way.
Lauren Hayes had a standout day defensively, recording a trio of ground balls and causing three turnovers, leading a Bobcat defense that forced 17 Golden Griffins turnovers.
EllaGrace Delmond knotted the game with 56 seconds to go and the Bobcats were able to force a turnover and race to the other end, but were unable to get a shot off in time before the regulation buzzer.

The Bobcats round out their home, regular season schedule on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Iona at 3 p.m., at the QU Lacrosse Stadium. They will then hit the road for their regular season finale on April 22, taking on Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m.

STATS AND NOTES
- The Bobcats were all over loose balls, scooping up a season-high 25 GBs on the afternoon. They controlled that department 25-18.
- Kat Henselder had five of her own, the most by any Quinnipiac player this season.
- Kleberg's four-spot matches the most goals by a Bobcat this season, joining Emily Feeney and Mia Delmond with four in a game this year.
- Hayes set a new season-high with three caused turnovers and it matches her collegiate best, last done on April 13, 2022 vs. Siena.
- Melissa Murphy has 11 caused turnovers and nine ground balls over her last four outings. She has four consecutive, multi-CT performances.
- Julia Steneck recorded her first, multi-CT outing since a March 18 bout at Villanova. She has also recorded a GB pickup in five straight games.
- Delmond has six goals over her last three outings and eight points during that span. She has 17 tallies on the year.
