Bobcats Roll Past Iona, Clinch MAAC Postseason Berth

HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team is headed back to the postseason, as the Bobcats controlled start to finish in an 18-8 victory over Iona on Wednesday afternoon.
The hosts scored eight of the first nine goals, racing out to an 8-1 lead in the first 18:25 of game action. Amy Nicoloff, Mia Delmond and Sophie Spencer all recorded a pair of goals over that stretch as the Bobcats asserted control from the start.
Iona would climb closer, bringing it to a three-goal margin of 9-6 at the 11:33 mark of the third quarter but the Bobcats would turn to a pair of upperclassman in Maddie Deegan and Emily Feeney to score twice in 76 seconds, regaining control of the game.
Feeney scored three goals in the second half allowing her squad to ice the game away.
Quinnipiac scored the last five of the day to finish off the afternoon. Feeney, Iaccino and Sophie Spencer all posted five-point days to lead Quinnipiac offensively.
The Bobcat defense forced Iona into 19 turnovers, including 13 in the second half.

STATS AND NOTES
- Quinnipiac is headed back to the postseason for the second time in three years after missing out on last year's festivities.
- The Bobcats offense posted season highs in points (30), goals (18), assists (12) and shots on goal (27).
- Spencer's three assists and six ground balls are each the most by a Bobcat player this season. They are both career-best marks as well.
- Feeney's five-point day is also a collegiate best for her, one-upping the four she had on three separate occasions this season. It is her third hat trick of 2023.
- Both Iaccino and Maddie Deegan joined the 100-point club, with Iaccino now at 102 for her career and Deegan at 101.
- Kleberg has eight points over her last two outings and a point in four consecutive games.
- Amy Nicoloff continues her career year, with more than half of her career points (33) coming in 2023 (17). She also recorded a career-high three caused turnovers.
- Delmond added her third hat trick of the season.
- Julia Steneck's four ground balls are the most since she scooped five on May 1, 2021 against Niagara.
