HAMDEN, Conn. – Keegan O'Connor and Jared Zimbardo homered and drove in two runs apiece, as the Quinnipiac baseball team came out on top in the MAAC home bout with Marist, 6-4, Friday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.

With the win, the Bobcats improved to 8-14 overall on the season and 2-2 in the MAAC, while the Red Foxes fell to 3-20 on the 2023 campaign with the loss and 0-1 in the MAAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Red Foxes struck first, opening the contest with three runs in the first inning to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage. The Bobcats responded with a run in the second after McGwire Tuffy lined an RBI single to right to drive in Sean Swenson from third, cutting the Marist lead to 3-1.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third, Keegan O'Connor launched a two-run homer to dead centerfield to trim the deficit to 4-3. The Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Jared Zimbardo launched a two-run homer to left, giving Quinnipiac a 5-4 lead.

O'Connor and Sean Swenson led the seventh inning with a single and double to put runners in scoring position with nobody out in the frame for the Bobcats. Braydon Seaburg stepped to the plate and immediately lined an RBI single to right to increase the Quinnipiac lead to 6-4.

The lead proved to be too much for Marist, as the Quinnipiac bullpen held the Red Foxes scoreless over the final four innings of play to secure the victory.

Mike Poncini earned his third save of the season, tossing a scoreless ninth inning to close the contest
Matt Alduino, Ryan Hutchinson, Craska and Poncini combined to toss four scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits in the appearances

The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 1, when QU takes on MAAC foe Marist at home in Hamden at 3 p.m to continue conference play
