HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team's comeback fell just short, as the Bobcats were edged by URI, 8-7, Tuesday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field. Anthony Donofrio and McGwire Tuffy combined to drive in five runs in the loss.

With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 7-14 overall on the season, while the Rams improved to 8-11 on the 2023 campaign with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams struck first, tallying three runs in the first two innings of play to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage. The Bobcats responded with two runs of their own in the second innings after McGwire Tuffy hit a two-run single up the middle to trim the deficit to 3-2. However, URI plated two runs in the third to extend its lead to 5-2.

Trailing 6-2, the Bobcats pushed across two runs in the fourth. With the bases loaded in the inning, Braydon Seaburg drew a walk to force in a run, cutting the deficit to 6-3. Tuffy immediately followed, reaching on a fielder's choice, allowing the run to score from third to bring the score to 6-4.

Trailing 8-4 in the seventh, the Bobcats rallied for three runs in the frame. With runners on first and second, Anthony Donofrio lined a two-run triple to the rightfield corner to trim the deficit to 8-6. Later in the inning, Kyle Maves dropped down a bunt to score Donofrio from first, to cut URI's lead to 8-7.

However, the comeback attempt came up just short as the Rams held on for the eventual 8-7 final.

Tuffy led the offense with three RBIs
Donofrio contributed two hits including a triple and two RBIs
Maves and Seaburg added an RBI apiece
Keegan O'Connor contributed two hits and two walks

The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, March 31, when QU takes on MAAC foe Marist at home in Hamden at 3 p.m to continue conference play
