HAMDEN, Conn. — 10 different players recorded a point on Wednesday afternoon, as the Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team knocked off Sacred Heart by a 16-11 final at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
Desiree Kleberg and Sophie Spencer led the way, recording four points each on the afternoon. Kleberg record a hat trick and an assist, while Spencer dished a pair of helpers to go along with her two goals.
It was a game of runs for the first 20 minutes, as back-to-back Sacred Heart tallies and a 3-0 run for the visitors were sandwiched outside a 4-0 Bobcat run in the first quarter.
Once the Pioneers took a 5-4 lead at the 11:47 mark of the second, Quinnipiac took control, scoring eight of the next nine to open up a 12-6 advantage three minutes into the second.
Six different Bobcats scored during the span that helped Quinnipiac seize control. On the defensive end, Kat Henselder made a huge save with 10:32 left in the second, halting the Pioneers' run and giving the Bobcats momentum that would turn into a Sophia Iaccino goal 36 seconds later and the run was on.
The preseason All-MAAC selection finished with nine saves between the pipes and helped lead a Bobcat back line that forced 15 Sacred Heart turnovers.

The Bobcats' season-opening homestand continues on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome LIU for a 2 p.m., first draw in Hamden.
