Bobcats' Six-Game Win Streak Snapped With Loss at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball had its six-game win streak snapped, as the Bobcats were downed by in-state conference rival Fairfield in four sets inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Friday evening.
Ginevra Giovagnoni led the Bobcats with 21 kills and 15 digs for a double-double, while Aryanah Diaz added 16 kills and 10 digs. Damla Gunes tallied 46 assists and 11 digs in the loss.
With the loss, Quinnipiac fell to 10-6 overall on the season and 6-1 in MAAC play, while Fairfield improved to 10-5 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.

SET ONE (25-22, Fairfield)
The two sides traded points to an 8-8 tie before the Stags slowly pushed ahead 17-11. After falling behind 20-13, the Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to force a Fairfield timeout. Out of the break, QU was able to cut the score to as close as 23-22 before Fairfield eventually held on for the 25-22 set victory.
SET TWO (26-24)
The two sides remained even through 17-17 before Fairfield pushed ahead 22-19. However, the Bobcats responded with a 4-0 run to force a Fairfield timeout, leading 23-22. Out of the break, the two sides played to a 24-24 tie in the set before the Stags took the set 26-24.
SET THREE (21-25)
The Bobcats came out the gates on fire, jumping out to a 10-4 lead before Fairfield burned its first timeout of the set. Quinnipiac's lead in the set reached as much as 17-10 before the Stags slowly crept back in the match to cut it as close as 22-18 before QU used a timeout. However, out of the break, the Bobcats were able to secure the 25-21.
SET FOUR (18-25)
The Stags got off to a 7-1 lead before QU used a timeout. Out of the break, the Bobcats fought back to trim the deficit to 12-8 before Fairfield used a timeout. However it wasn't enough, as the Bobcats eventually fell in the set 25-18 and match, 3-1.
NOTES:
The Bobcats return to Hamden with a Wednesday MAAC matchup with Manhattan (Oct. 11), followed by home matches with Saint Peter's (Oct. 14) and Rider (Oct. 15).
