HAMDEN, Conn.— No. 3 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will participate in the program's first Frozen Fenway presented by Moderna and the U.S. Virgin Islands hosted at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. on Friday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. against Harvard University.
Quinnipiac will be honoring three members of Bobcat Nation during Frozen Fenway including former Athletic Director Jack McDonald, QU women's ice hockey alum and current Boston Bruins Player Development and Scouting Assistant Danielle Marmer, and former ECAC Hockey Commissioner Steve Hagwell.
Danielle Marmer will be our ceremonial puck drop honoree at Frozen Fenway, as a former member of Bobcat Hockey in 2013-17, Marmer helped establish the program's culture during the historic 2015-2016 ECAC Championship season. She would return to the bobcats in 2019 as the director of player development and operations. In the summer of 2022, she joined the Boston Bruins hockey operations staff as Player Development and Scouting Assistant. Danielle is an incredible ambassador for Quinnipiac University and is a role model for so many women in sports.
Former athletic director (AD) Jack McDonald was Quinnipiac's AD from 1995-2015 and oversaw the introduction of the Women's Ice Hockey program. A Braintree Massachusetts native McDonald got his start in intercollegiate athletics as a student-athlete competing in track and cross country at Boston College a program which he would later take the helm of as head coach. During his time at Quinnipiac, he oversaw many landmark milestones including the move to Division I, the opening of M&T Bank Arena, hosting the 2013 Women's Frozen Four, and overseeing 33 conference championships and 21 NCAA post-season appearances. Jack's impact and legacy at Quinnipiac cannot be overstated and all bobcats past, present, and future are grateful for the opportunities
Commissioner Steve Hagwell has served as ECAC Hockey commissioner for the last 18 years and is the longest-serving commissioner in the league's history. Hagwell is widely recognized in the hockey community as an individual who has devoted himself and his career to advance the interests of college hockey and the "good of the game" in front of any obstacles that might be posed by personal, league, regional or gender agendas. As the commissioner of ECAC Hockey, Hagwell has been at the forefront of both league and national decisions that have shaped the sport and provided a path to excellence both on and off the ice for countless student-athletes. Hagwell's tenure has seen five ECAC Hockey teams raise the NCAA National Championship trophy, as well as many student-athletes continuing to professional and international careers on both the men's and women's sides, including more than 200 players in NHL, Olympic, and World Championship competition.
