Bobcats Earn 3-0 Win at Maine to Complete Sweep

ORONO, Maine - No. 8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey swept the season-opening series at Maine, earning a 3-0 victory on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Nina Steigauf, Maya Labad and captain Lexie Adzija all scored to secure the four-point weekend at Alfond Arena.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (01:34, 1st period, EV)—Quinnipiac 1, Maine 0: Nina Steigauf, with help from Mia Lopata and Shay Maloney, opened the scoring early in the first period on a 2-on-1 breakaway, where she beat Maine goaltender Jorden Mattison top-shelf on the blocker side giving QU an early 1-0 lead. Lopata's assist was her first collegiate point.
- (07:17, 2nd period, EV)—Quinnipiac 2, Maine 0: Maya Labad scored her first goal of the season when Maine took a delayed call for tripping, which allowed assistant captain Sadie Peart to find Alexa Hoskin who passed the puck through the neutral zone to find Labad in the slot to widen the Bobcats lead to two.
- (18:32, 2nd period, EV)—Quinnipiac 3, Maine 0: Captain Lexie Adzija sealed the Bobcats' victory as Olivia Mobley took the puck off the faceoff and found Adzija wide open in front of the crease. Adzija buried the puck past Mattison.
NOTES:
- Lopata tallied her first collegiate point, an assist, on Steigauf's goal.
- Shay Maloney recorded her first assist as a Bobcat on Steigauf's goal.
- Four Bobcats have recorded points in both weekend games, (Adzija, Peart, Mobley, and Steigauf)
- Both teams went 0-6 on the powerplay.
- Sophomore Catie Boudiette notched her first shutout of the season, fourth of her career, making 29 saves.
- The Bobcats and Black Bears were tied for shots, 26-26.
- The Bobcats dominated the faceoff circle, taking 37 of 50, with Adzija winning 19 out of 24.
