NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac baseball team returns to action on Thursday, as the Bobcats wrap its regular season slate when they travel to take on Niagara in a crucial three-game set in MAAC play. First pitch from Thursday's contest is set for at 3 p.m. from Bobo Field.
Last Time Out
- QU returns to action after falling on the road in extras against UMass, 4-3, this past Tuesday
- Anthony Donofrio, Kyle Maves and Michael Kohn provided an RBI apiece in the loss
- As it currently stands, for Quinnipiac to advance to the MAAC tournament the Bobcats would have to sweep Iona, as well as Iona taking at least two games in their weekend series against Manhattan
- The Purple enter the contest at 16-30 on the season and 10-11 in MAAC contests
- Niagara is 8-4 in home contests
- The Purple Eagles are 4-3 in their last seven games

- Ian Ostberg made his return to the QU lineup on March 22 against Yale and is batting .314 with six homers, 10 doubles and 31 RBIs in 30 games

- Kyle Maves is batting .278 on the season with 47 hits, 38 runs scored, eight doubles and three triples
- He leads the team in runs scored (38), walks (29), steals (23) and triples (3)

- Jared Zimbardo returned to Hamden for his sophomore campaign and has been lighting it up at the plate
- Boasting a .297 batting average, Zimbardo has notched 47 hits on the campaign
- In his last 20 games, Zimbardo has tallied 22 hits, including five homers and 13 RBIs
- Zimbardo tallied three hits and hit a walk-off single to lead the Bobcats past Bryant in extra innings on April 27
- A transfer from SUNY Cortland, Anthony Donofrio took no time at all to adjust to find his fit in the Bobcats' lineup
- Donofrio is batting .323, boasting 53 hits and 35 runs scored on the season as well
- Donofrio is batting over .375 with four homers, four doubles and 10 RBIs over his last 20 games

- Melnick leads the team in batting average (.351), hits (54), slugging percentage (.675), on-base percentage (.425), total bases (104), doubles (16), homers (11) and RBIs (33)
- Over his last 20 games Melnick is batting .443 (35-for-79) with 31 runs scored, 10 doubles, eight homers and 19 RBIs
- He blasted three homers against Fairfield on May 13
- Melnick's three homers in the contest marked the first time a QU player hit three homers in a game since Evan Vulgamore hit three against Saint Peter's on March 31, 2018
- Melnick led the offense in the opening series at Saint Joseph's, batting .600 with six hits, four runs scored and four RBIs in just two games played
- Melnick went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI against Saint Joseph's on Feb. 19
- He followed that performance with three hits, a homer, three runs scored and four RBIs in an 18-8 victory over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 20
- Melnick posted two doubles, two RBIs and five runs scored in a 9-8 win over Hartford in 11 innings on April 12
- Junior Brandyn Garcia has assumed the role of ace of the staff this season
- Garcia leads the staff with four wins on the season and boasts 74 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched
- Garcia earned a win in QU's 8-4 victory over St. John's on March 25
- In that contest he tossed six scoreless innings and struck out five en route to his third win of the season
- Garcia earned a win in QU's 6-5 victory over George Mason on March 11
- He logged seven innings and struck out 10 in the start
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Tuesday, May 24 when QU opens in the first round of the MAAC Championships
